Do you think he might be stolen ?

It is more likely that someone has found him and taken him off to rehome him.
Although they mean well, I have met several people who have found escaped pets and kept them. I think this is absolutely terrible because their real owners - like you - never know what has happened.
I suggest contacting vets and rescue centres and pet shops within quite a wide area around you. He is so distinctive because of the missing ear that you have a good chance to really find out what has happened. If anyone has seen him - they will remember him.

sad to say yes there are dog nappers in England . have you tried phoning around the rescue centres try further afield Hun. sometimes the police pick up dogs and they don't always inform the rescue centres so its well worth going in person to the police station.also place an add in the paper and offer a reward. have you had travellers around were you live, if you have go to the site be nice and friendly tell them how upset you are and if anyone has seen your Dog, I'm sure they would tell you.If you get your Dog back, its a good idea to have him chipped, at least then if someone were to leave the gate open again in the future, you will get him back. happy to say I got mine back when the builder left the gate open. I since had him micro chipped. I wish you loads of luck Hun and hope you are reunited soon.

Put a spring on the gate so its self closing.
Your dog is distinctive, go on local radio and to the local papers asking for him to be returned. Someone will recognise the desctription; remember to say which ear it is thats missing.
You also need to contact the council I'm afraid; their street cleaners keep lists of dogs that were found dead by the road after being hit by traffic.

Although pedigrees are stolen for breeding, and sometimes pets are stolen to get at someone or for ransom; its far more likely that he's been picked up by the kind of 'animal lovers' who believe that no one else is fit to own a dog.
I've met people who untie dogs from lamp posts on the grounds that they've been abandoned.

I have that problem with kids keep opening our gate my dog gets out luckily he always comes back i do worry though because in the past 6 months near where i live 5 dogs have been stolen from there owners when they have been out walking, i don't want to scare you but they are normally stolen for dog fights. Keep trying the local shelters and put up posters that may help. I hope you find your dog and have a nice xmas.

Sadly the answer to your question is yes there are dog nappers in England and they don't just take pedigree dogs either, in my local paper recently a cross bred dog was stolen and a few hours later his owners received a Ransom phone call, they wanted £1000 for the safe return of their dog, people will pay it because they love their animals, fortunately this dog was found a day later tied to a tree a bit bedraggled but unhurt fortunately.
I hope you find your dog safe and well.

Yes there are dog nappers. But don't go jumping to conclusions. He may have just been picked up by someone who realised he was lost/missing, or he may be out wandering the streets unable to find his way home (he may have strayed further than usual). All I can suggest is that you make up some flyers and put them up around you neigbourhood. And keep getting in contact with local dog kennels - he may have been handed in there.

I do hope you get your dog back. I had my dog stolen once: he was tied up outside the shop, but when my brother came back out he was gone. Luckily though we found him within hours: some kid at took him.

Unfortunately, yes there are dog nappers in Britain. Pedigree breeds are often stolen so that they can be sold on at high prices. A friend of the family recently "lost" her Chow, it was luckily returned after the people who bought it found it was already chipped. They lost £500 to those who sold the dog on.

As your dog is distinct advertise, someone may have it. Good luck in finding him.

well the answer is yes there are some sad people around, i know of someone, who you went to view a pup and ran of with them all.

Have you tried your council, the dog warden may of found him, or local rescue centres, has he a micro chip, if yes tell them, they will help. Ring all your local vets and your local police station, put posters up etc. I do hope you will find him.

Its a shame people don't respect other peoples property, maybe put a electric gate up, then they wont even open it.

Good luck, i really hope you find him, you must be very up set. Please let us no if he comes home safely.

oh yes there are people who steal dogs 3 types
those who steal pedigrees to order
those who see one straying pick it up and take it home because they feel sorry and think its abandonned
those who steal them for what they can get to fuel undesirable habits.
it is possible your dog had been seen out before they are valuble for hunting vermin and foxes etc and may have even been used for fighting dogs to practise on (sorry but it's a fact) as for gates we have a front door and a secure side gate which is locked so no one gets to the back with out permission.
somebody may have picked him up and turned him in keep checking police and all the rescue centres and vets over a large area as a lot keep dogs for afew days only. do not be afraid to keep calling them they can take a rather too laid back attitude to pets at times
hope he turns up soon

There are dog nappers anywhere there are dogs. He might have got picked up by the animal control or someone else found him. Put up signs and maybe someone will call. Good luck.
