Depending on your training can determine what job you do get. But I wouldn't worry too much, people who've served their country often get jobs very easily because of that fact.

Leon,

I am curious about your question, these days, the Navy offers a job guarantee, in writing, in your contract, towards a specific job (career). The only real option of not knowing specifically what you will be doing is if you enlist under an apprentice program. If this is the option you took (its what I came in under), then you are more then likely going to a ship. Either way, you should have al ready been informed that after boot camp you will be going to school, even if it is apprentice training school. Upon completion of school, you will pick orders to the command that you feel will best suit your career.

If you are unmarried and have two children then you must have enlisted in the Reserve under the NonPrior Service Basic Program. In which case, you will go to school after boot camp and then go back to your hometown and check in with the nearest Reserve Center.

Good Luck.

Alrighty...on your way to boot camp...and have two kids.

You could:

1. Become an engineer. Go back to training and learn to be an engineer. That should take a good 2 years, and after that, you will be stationed to a desk duty job, that should include from fixing anything around the base, and around the civilian world. If you're unlucky you could be sent to Iraq.

2. Become a nurse. You would get three months of intense training, then get sent to a Naval / Tripler Army hospital. you wouldn't have to move around a lot, and they USUALLY take Army corpsman to Iraq.

3. You could take the opportunity to tell them, "Hey I want to go get a college degree and become an officer." They will send you to a NAVY approved college. Take ROTC courses, and earn your degree. Burn 4 years after that, and its all paid for by the Navy, and when you graduate you'll most likely be stationed on to a base as an ensign.

Thats all I can think of right now. Email me if you want any more information. Served 10 years in the Navy, and still going strong.

well there is always the chance of you being deployed. my fiance went straight into school after he was done his basic. he wazs going to be a commercial pilot but then he got called up and is going to kuwait in march. it's up to you as to which career you want. try to get a job on the base where you are stationed. i'm sure they will be able to help you out. people change a lot when they comeout the other side of basic training, you will be stronger, more mature and better for going in. just wanna also say thank you.

So Jason M, how did you make commander so quick? Navy SF you say? Yeah I read the blog and think you're a poser.

well im not in the navy. but as a marine i do work with them quite a bit. i would recommend going to the airwing. try to avoid ships at all cost. they suck. bad. in the airwing you can work "I" level or "O" level.
"O" level or organizational level are the people who actually work for a squadron, say actually on the aircraft. "I" level, intermediate level are the people who support the squadron. they dont usually see the aircraft.
airwing deployments usually last 6 to 9 months and you are at your home station between deployments. i think "O" level deploys more then "I", at least in my experience they do.
