That's all I want. I want them to try to really understand it. I wish they would stop lying to me. They say they are worshipping the one true god. And that if I don't repent for my sins I will spend eternity in hell. I am more honost and more kind than all the christians I know. But that idiot jesus will save their souls. Where is the freakin' sense?

Just stop lying, you've got no reason for being so sure of any kind of afterlife.

I love Sagan. He demonstrated that you can appreciate the beauty of the universe through scientific fact - truth is beauty, after all. You don't need religion to comfort you when you realise that the wonders of the world are even more fantastic without it. Some people see snow and flowers and need to believe that a Creator made them... I see snow and flowers and think how amazing science can be. It IS far better to grasp the universe as it really is, because delusion merely clouds the true beauty in it.

I've grasped a few delusional universes, but it's not as nice as the tiniest mote of reality.

Pain comes through resistance to what is. No matter how complete the delusion, truth always reveals itself.

Why is it better? What did he know? He was a blind materialist. He was as deluded as they come. His religion was science. If you are fundamentalist about that, and admit of no possibility of a higher consciousness whatsoever, you are really lost (in my opinion). Also I am not a bible thumper I just think that you have to have a more expansive view of the universe than pure materialism.

But Salty ..... how exactly *IS* the universe? What is delusion to one may be truth to another, and vice versa.

Where is absolute truth to be found?

It is impossible to grasp the universe as it is. We can not comprehend it. It is something our of our reach.
