until the expiration date if it;s kept in the cold part of the fridge. Once cottage cheese has been opened, I put a piece of plastic wrap over the cheese itself under the plastic container lid to keep out any extra air which will help keep it fresher longer. In my experience it lasts about 3-4 days and then gets watery and icky .

Cottage cheese is a product that was originally made by letting milk curdle, therefor it is a product that is fairly stable. You can easily let it go 2 weeks after the sell by date. If there is liquid/ solid seperation, it is just the liquid whey seperating from the curds. Dont let this trick you into thinking the cheese went bad. Do smell tests, and make sure there is no mold.

I follow the expiration date on the carton. But if you open it one day and it is green and fuzzy or smells sour, throw it out.

1-2 weeks...don't eat directly from the container--it goes bad faster!
