No they don't get cramps. But they are very tender and uncomfortable. The only time I had any trouble with mine is when I had to change her dogie diaper. They bleed a lot and I had to change her 3 x's a day. She slept a lot though.

As a rule they do, its an uncomfortable, and instinctual time for them. Get your female spayed to restrict any "unintentional litters." Oh, and lets no longer forget outside breeders. Dont Litter! Spay or Neuter.

My beagle feels the same as I do, I am almost sure of it. If one of our sons tries to pick her up during her heat, we have to warn them not to, because she will growl and nip, and sometimes yelp, like it hurts her. She also sleeps a LOT, and seems cranky- basically does not want to be messed with, and takes cr@p from no one. Just like me!
