should remove the battery negative terminal first., remove the wire in the starter one socket type the other is bolted in selenoid.before loosening the (2) 14 mm mounting bolt. i would say it is a difficult job okay, take care always.

if ther eis no room to drop the starter out the bottom or pull it up through the top under the intake manifold area then you will have to remove the engine mount bolt on the passenger side and jack up the engine until there is room enough to get the starter out
i have an 88 toyota pickup with the 4 cylinder engine and i have not yet removed the starter but it really looks like i would need to jack the engine up,

the common issue with the starters on this specific vehicle and engine is the two big copper contacts in the starter, get new ones from your local battery shop they are cheap about 3 bucks a piece, or search on google for them

this is all that goes wrong with these starters

very cheap fix but the hard part is removing and reinstalling the starter itsel

happy wrenching and cussing :D just wait til you have to replace the fuel filter they are usually bolted to the engine block just underneath the intake manifold and it is a PITA to do there is no room at all, it took two hours to do on mine, never going to do it again,

good luck
