I'm a guy who's going to the San Francisco Opera tonight. I have a nice Michael Kors suit, but should I wear a whilte shirt and black tie? Can I wear any other color shirt or tie?

Depending on your style, you could go for the traditional white shirt black tie but since Opera is a thing of art why not wear some colour. Think of a colour that you usually get compliments with....if your eyes are blue...blue is great. even wearing a suit with a really nice t-shirt and perhaps a scarf is quite nice. have fun.

Black and white suits are from the long-ago-days. I would tell you to wear your suit with a nice shirt, preferably solid color, with a tie. I think that will make you look nice without going too plain.

Formal wear is usually only worn to opening night or special galas. Any nice jacket and tie is appropriate for the opera on regular evenings.

Wear what is comfortable and looks decent. You are going to be sitting down for a long period of time, so you want to be comfortable.

You don't have to wear black and white. You already have the right idea. Just dress up!
