I'm not sure of the statistics, but if you keep your hands clean and keep your fingers out of your eyes, you should be ok. I'm 27 and have been wearing contacts since I was 10 and have never had an eye infection. Also, remember to take them out at nite and put them in proper saline solution and replace them as directed.

I wore contact lenses for years and never got any eye infection. It's all a matter of maintaining them, keeping them clean/disinfected and going without them from time to time to give your eyes a chance to "breathe" a bit.
Here's a link to a contact lens FAQ that should answer your question along with any others you might have.

Very low if you're following your doctor's reccommended wearing schedule and cleaning routine. Your hands are where 99% of bacteria that causes infections comes from, so if you're always careful to wash them before handling your contacts, you shouldn't have a problem. It's always a good idea to keep your fingers out of your eyes while wearing them too, you know, no rubbing, etc. Lastly, and equally important, if you use a saline solution, never touch the tip to anything including your own eye.

Glasses are riskier than contacts on your eyes in case you vacation or something--there is all that metallic and glass that would want to discover its way into your eyeball if you're unlucky sufficient. maximum individuals get tender contacts at the moment. There are some negatives to the contact lenses, yet they're better ideal than glasses for activities and different activities. the fee is about an same as for glasses initially, yet you want to spend about 2 cases as a lot on contact lenses over the lengthy haul, as you want new glasses plenty a lot less usually than you want new lenses. the biggest determiner of no matter if you're previous sufficient to have them is how sturdy your hygiene is (this may properly be extremely diverse from one 13 12 months previous to the subsequent). if you're already shifting into visual attraction information like shaping eyebrows and putting attempt into the way you gown etc, you're better than waiting. in the journey that your mom and father nonetheless favor to remind you to comb your tooth, you're nonetheless too youthful. if you're someplace in between, keep in mind that being concerned for contact lenses isn't puzzling, yet failing to preserve them causes intense issues. Are you truly going to preserve them? It also looks your dad has some misconceptions about contacts. you ought to have the well-being practitioner sparkling up your ideas, fee and the hazards linked with contacts which include your dad.

Just like everyone said, yes you can get an infection if you don't keep your lenses clean. If you suspect an infection, take your lenses out and don't wear them. See the eye Dr. and do what he/she tells you to do.

I've gotten eye infections and couldn't wear contacts for almost 2 years.
Just when you notice your contacts irritating you, even if you changed to a new pair, take them out for a few days and then go back. Because if you let an irritation continue then the problem gets worse and even severe like in my case.

I have worn contact lenses for over 30 years and have never had an infection because of them. I have made sure to handle them properly and clean them regularly. If you do the things you need to do, you won't have any problem.

I have had contacts for 10+ years and I have never had an infection. As long as you take care of them like you are supposed to then you shouldn't have any problems.

Just be careful. My first cousin went totally blind in one eye as a result of an eye infection from contacts.

Zero to none. They are sanitized when you place them in the lens case. Also, you clean them again before you put them in your eye. The only way I can see an infection happening is if you wear them 10 days straight, take them out without storing them or maybe not washing your hands.
