Hi there...most parasites are not zoonotic (diseases which can be transferred from human to animal and vice versa). However, there are some parasites such as ringworm, roundworm, hookworm, etc that is contagious to humans from animals. When handling animals excrement it's always best to wash the hands thoroughly afterwards. Pet animals should be dewormed to minimize or eliminate the chance of infestations.

The only way you can get round worms, tapeworms and other parasites excluding ringworm is in the intestinal trick, the only way to get them is by feces to mouth contact. Example you eat the cats fecal mater. Or you clean the litter box and then don't wash your hands and touch your mouth or food that you plan on eating. I would suggest getting dewormed, always wash your hands. De-worming is a process where it could take up to 2 weeks to fully exterminate the worms. After the 2 weeks do a recheck to make sure they are gone. Wash Wash Wash as much as you can if dealing with feces. Ringworm is not a worm it is a flaky patch of skin where the hair is gone and the outer edge of the circle resembles a worm (where it got its name). Good Luck

Yes, you have to be careful. In my vets office is pictures of people infected with the worms of pets. Round worms, hook worms, ring worms....etc. Be very careful, especially if you have kids. Used to tell my daughter that all the time until she saw the pics.

Be sure the cat's anus does not come into contact with human skin. Cats can be infected with microscopic" Protozoa parasites: Amoeba, Trichomonas,Coccidia, and Giardia. All of these may produce diarrhoea and other gastro-intestinal signs, but are uncommon as causes of disease. More important is Toxoplasma, which can invade various tissues of the cat's body, including the intestine, and is generally contracted through eating raw meat. Acute attacks, with signs that are easily confused with other diseases, may occur; these can be fatal. Chronic cases also exist. A common sign in both forms is diarrhoea. The cat sheds the parasites in its stools, and these can be passed on to humans. Although this disease is rare, it is a risk to pregnant women, who may pass it on to their unborn baby.
