To look 200 years ahead, it's always nice to look 200 years back. Atound 1800 the world was in complete turmoil, with tremendous political shifts (due to the French Revolution and the american struggle for independence) and there were many wars (also mainly due to Napoleon).
Next to that there were many technological advances, known as the first industrial revolution.
In those days there were many people who believed that the world would come to an end, and that our way of life had to change dramatically. But... we're still there. So as long as mankind will remain capable of adapting to novel circumstances I guess we will be around.

mmmmm! how long is a piecev of string?? The way we are going, unless everyone gets together, we will poison ourselves (humans and other species) off the earth. At least as people get more educated and events occur which reinforce warnings things are beginning to happen, like Kyoto etc.
Before natural disasters etc, kept the worlds population in check, now with modern medicine and technology, we are saving those who nature did not intend to live.
Even today some Scientist disagree over the Earths coming predicament, only when we all work and agree will anything happen. 200 years, maybe better ask for the Lotto winning numbers.

Certainly we can live for another 500 years or may be more if we change our style of living. If we use principals of sustainable living, if we care for our environment and forests.
Our earths history is very long and and we see so many species evolve and become extinct but we humans have induced a faster rate of global warming and have started hurting and disturbing natures balance. If we stop all this certainly we will not be extinct that soon (200 yrs) unless we are killed by some meteor or somthing from outer space like they say we lost dianosour.

I think if the worlds dynamics continue the current trend, we won't be around in very many places. If a new power source is developed, or society undergoes a radical change, there may be hope...
