There are a few females who will have a silent heat, which is especially dangerous because you don't know she's in heat. For your dog's health, make an appointment and get her spayed.

Bigger dogs tend to come into heat later than smaller dogs, so it's not unheard of to have a Golden Retriever not come into heat until 1 to 2 years old.
Dogs can also have a silent heat (one that the owner doesn't notice). If your dog is kept outside a lot it's completely possible to miss it.
If you got your dog as an older puppy it's possible that she was already spayed prior to your adoption. Vets can spay a puppy as young as 8 weeks, so if your puppy was acquired from a shelter, she may be spayed already.
Please get your dog spayed as soon as possible. There's enough unwanted puppies in the world.

You've waited long enough because it is best to get them spayed BEFORE their first heat. I know in cats it is VERY RARE but possible, some are not born with any reproductive organs. They had one at our shelter, no spay scar and no signs of surgery once they got in there yet there were no reproductive organs. However, like i said this is RARE and doubtful it is the case with your dog. Take her to the vet and get her spayed asap, it'll be the best thing for her

Depending on the lines the dog comes from, some girls don't get their first heat until very late. It's also common to have something called a "silent heat" where the symptoms are not very noticeable. Can you ask your breeder when her mom came into heat the first time?

ive never heard that they cant but i would check with a vet, most of the time you wont even know when a dog has her first period. but she should almost be at about her third period if im not mistaken.
