No you're right. Although many can stop cutting without help, it isn't a bad idea to get help from someone. Also I've noticed some people on here obviously do not know what they are talking about. So here let me clear it up:
Most cutters are not suicidal, but some are.
Most cutters are NOT just doing it for attention, although some people see others who do this and think it's cool to get attention, many of them really can't find another outlet for their pain.
Just because a person cuts themselves it doesn't make them dumb.
So yes you were right, but many of these answers were wrong... and mean.

There is a trend in the "emo culture" for the kids to scratch themselves and self-injure, and I do not think that they need help if they are just doing it for the attention and the scene cred.
If a person is seriously self-injuring, and by this I mean they have the compulsion to cut frequently and it's getting worse and is accomponied with depression and/or eating disorders or any mental distress, then yes, they should see a psychologist.

Not at all. In fact most times its a cry for help. If you know that they cut, then they know you know they cut and that gives them the attention that they're looking for. The attention they really need though should come from a counslor of some kind. So to answer your question. No.

No, your not wrong in think that. People who cut themselves or self-mutilate are people who need help. Self-injury is the act of attempting to alter a mood state by inflicting physical harm serious enough to cause tissue damage to one's body.

I believe they need help and need to talk to someone and find a positive outlet besides cutting themselves. Most cutters are not suicidal, they just want attention. The ones that cut their wrist (parallel to the arm and not across) are the ones thinking of attempting it. I've dumped a fiance who did that. Cutting oneself for attention only shows immaturity.

No, You aren't wrong , They do need help, or a friend to talk to them and tell them, to seek some professional help, It can be caused by several things, teens do this when there is too much stress in their lives, Its too bad, Its just the small stuff they are sweating right now, wait till they become grown, that's when the real problems really began.. Please tell this person , they are too good to be doing this to themselves..

That cut themselves? Yes they need help. Cutting is their means of dealing with emotional pain/trauma.

Yes you do.They are hurting themselves. I used to have a problem just like it. My stepmom took me to a phyciatrist and they said that you cut yourself becuz u r stressed out. They also said that when you are stressed, you like to feel a sting.I started using rubberbands.Whenever they are stressed out, tell the to flick the rubberband against their wrist. It give them a sting without badly hurting themselves. Welts go away within 5 min. Scars are forever. LoTs-O-LuV : )

No youare not wrong. They need help but unfortunately theones who are doing it for real and not just trying to seek out attention don't want help. A friend of mine acts as though Us tryign to stop her was wrong and we "Didn't accept her for who she was and that only made it worse." But they DO need help. Self mutalation is not only painful and dangerous... it also affects everyone around them negatively. Unfortunately it is impossible to help thoes who don't want to help them selves.

No, you are not wrong. People who cut themselves have issues that they should seek counselling for. I think it's the dumbest thing next to suicide that someone could do - hurt themselves!
