ok there is no garuntee you can raise your range by an audition, howver my goal was to have a four octave and i did that in only a few months
anyway run scales with only your natural voice (chest voice) a few notes lower than your fal setto several times do this everyday. at the end of a week go one scale a whole step higher
this strengthers your voice which will help you heighten it
make sure when singing to stand with feet flat
and your stomach should tighten when you hit a higher note. It also helps to think about singing phsycologically, think that the note is "shorter" than you or lower
pick a song good for you to show off your best features and have total confidence if your stage presence is good, it gives both you and the director a boost of confidence

I just had my auditions last Monday and I know how you feel. Get help form your music teacher! I did and I went from and Alto to a middle Soprano! Nothing is impossible. If you have a piano at home try playing a simple song like happy birthday and try matching each pitch in your range. Then go up slightly higher and hit all those. keep going up till you feel comfortable where you are at! I did it and it works great. Really listen to your voice and try and find the best way to use it as a whole. The number one thing is when you go into that audition room act like you can sing like an opera star. If you think you can do it. It'll make hitting the high notes even easier! I hope this works! The best of luck to you!

Some good ideas above, but I must say that "smile while you sing" is a bit misleading. Smile with your eyes and face and body language, but your mouth and lips should be more puckered to get a good, more mature sound out, especially on high notes.

Also, pick a good audition piece in your range. Don't worry about the high notes, find something that shows off the range you do have. You might want to check out http://www.musicalnotesnmore.com/ and scan through their site. Each musical has a "Songs of Special Interest" section, which could outline some pieces to look into. Typically for an audition you either want a ballad-y slow song or a more upbeat piece, depending on the role you're going for. Also, for a lower voice look into songs sung by alto or mezzo characters.

You can't sing high, or you can't sing loudly?

It's okay if you can't sing high. You may be an alto. There's bound to be alto parts. Don't try to sing higher than your voice will let you. You could hurt your voice.

It's okay if you can't sing loudly either. Just give it all you've got. Don't scream, just sing. Use your diaphragm, like you're dropping a deuce (#2 in the bathroom). That should give you the support you need.

Don't go into the audition blind. Don't hesitate to talk to the choir director at the school, he/she may be willing to give you more specific hints as well as help you practice before-hand.

Good Luck!

Yep, lots of ideas ...
Smile when you sing - the wider your mouth is, the better the quality of the sound.
As much as you can, keep tongue to bottom of your mouth while singing, out of the way, making a wider cavity again.
Take deep breaths way down into your belly - breath as often as you can - breath is the most important part of singing.
Stand straight with best posture while singing - helps with getting good deep breaths.
While holding notes, don't forget to hold that smile.
If you have good breathing technique and keep your mouth wide and open, you'll be suprised just how much vocal range you can reach.

Me, I was a "terrible singer" until I took just a few voice lessons. Now my hubby says, "wow, you sound darned good!' It doesn't take much to improve.
Good luck and remember me when you're a star ;)

u are an alto, not a soprano, do not try to strain ur voice to sing high or try to sing ultra loud to make up for lack of sound, alot of people are altos , i am and i cannot sing high notes like ever or at all, i would say to just practice singing the song and try new techinques like breathing fom ur diaphragm like from the bottom of ur sotmach not just ur lungs and i would reccomened if u are serious seeing a voice coach to see if u have potential to rain ur voice for hihgher notes, if anything if u can sing well ull get a part that sings a lower part and not a higher pitch voice part good luck on ur audtions, when they ask u ur singing voice say alto!

Think of singing as stretching a rubber band across a wind tunnel. To go high, don't think of it as 'high' think of it as the 'top' of your voice, or the most stretched. If you have trouble finding your top voice, try making a minnie mouse voice to get the feel of it, really windy and light. This is your falsetto, hard to do at full voice right away, but not impossible with practice. Also, focus on LISTENING to the sounds you are making. Hearing is the most important part of singing. Too shrill sounding? relax your vocal cords. Not enough resonance? feel the air massaging your throat to get a full sound. And get your tongue a bit over your bottom teeth to make sure you aren't swallowing your sound.

Ask the school's music/show choir/etc teacher for after school voice lessons. If not available, consider paying for private voice lessons. It may cost you, but the reward is that when you get up there to sing, you sound better than before and are doing it the right way.
