My number 1 recommendation is invest in an MP3 player, and noise cancelling/blocking headphones. Being able to close your eyes and hear only your favorite tunes goes far toward creating a comfortable environment. Mix tunes and video if you have a device of devices that can do this, or pair your music with a eye shade. If you are a reader, buy a new book by your favorite author.

If you can avoid it do not resort to medication. Even over the counter sleep aids can have adverse physical impacts especially if your flight is shorter than the effective duration of the medication.

Well, as a flight attendants daughter, I traveled, and still do alot. What helps me is to bring along some fun games like cards or ipod or a book. Besides people die from worse things than crashing a plane.

I hate flying but know that if I want to go places, I have to fly. SO. I have learnt to remember that an aeroplane is just like a bus...it is getting me from a to b. The pilot is a glorified bus driver and when there are bumps, that's just like going over bumps in the road. When you get really scared, breath slowly and deeply, concentrating on breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth......and thinking how you'd not be like this on a bus! Be brave.

i'm that way too and i fly like crazy. close your eyes when you are taking off. just push yourself back into your seat so it doesn't feel like you are going up....if it's a long flight take a sedative to kinda put you to sleep. avoid going to the washroom. i always feel like i'm gonna die. i'd just rather explode in the airport bathrooms....good luck. you won't go down!

I agree with MattCan. Noise-canceling headphones and your favorite tunes will work wonders to help you relax.

ask your doctor for a prescription for a few Valium. Just enough to get you there and back.
