People are horrible. I think that they are scared or they might be afraid they'll "catch" it. Maybe they don't know how to act, no ones ever taught them. It's hard to give them the benefit of the doubt when they are hurting the person that you love so much. But, they need understanding as well. You don't need to be tolerant of cruel behavior. Tell your teachers, parents, people you trust about this. Try and organize an assembly on the awareness of Down Syndrome. Be an activist for your brother. Educate people. Knowledge will lead to understanding. You're brother is VERY lucky to have you as a sister and have people that love him so much. God Bless you both.

My niece has DS and she to is made fun of. She is 18 years old and still loves her baby doll and wants to get married. However, she is at an age level mentally of about 5 years old.

Not all people are mean and you can still get hurt with or without a mental disability by others. Fighting is not the answer. You could have someone come to your school to discuss DS and other disabilities or have the school pass out pamphlets on the subject or have it discussed in every class during health.

Turn your anger in to helping others by calling or writing the DS organization and asking them what you can do to inform the students at your school with the help of a teacher or your principle. Best of luck.

The people who are mean are probably put down by someone in their own home and take it out in the school yard on 'weaker' people like your brother. There are lots of good people out there who don't care what anybody has or is, they just want to connect with 'people'. The older you get, if you go out and meet people all over the world, the more you'll realize the bullies at school are the biggest losers on the planet.
Don't let it get to you. Just love your brother and protect him with kindness and affection and hopefully the right people will come along eventually to make both your lives easier.

I was teased as a kid. I won't lie it still stings some.

Be there for your brother, be strong for the both of you.

Just get involved in some hobby that you both enjoy.

You really cant change people all you can do is change your reaction to their behavior.

It does get better after H.S. You'll be around more adults hopefully most will be more mature than H.S. kids.

They just think that they're better than everybody else. Or they don't like something about themselves and they just pick on other people to feel better about themselves. But if they really are just that mean, maybe their kids will turn out that same way like your brother, and they'll regret it for the rest of their lives.

It's a sad and frustrating thing to witness, I know. I have a cousin with DS. People ridicule out of fear and stupidity and because they have seen and heard others do it.

The love you have and show for your brother will let him know that it is the ones who mock that are wrong, not him.

people are mean because they have low self esteem and they only feel better when they bring other people down. they hate people that are "below" them because its a safe target. they hate people better than them because they want to be them. its jus too bad about your brother but God sees all that they do and justice will be brought about in the end. <3

People sorry to say r like that unless it happens to them or someone they care about. Ignorance!Teach them about it somehow, knowledge helps. My Aunt is mentally handi-capped and my own cousins when they were little made fun of her. They finally grew up!!!

Because most people don't know how todeal with seeing people with downs syndrome. They get scared and lash out.

You just keep standing up for your brother.
