"No man is entitled to enjoy the blessings of freedom unless he is diligent in its preservation." -- General Douglas MacArthur

"To be prepared for war is the most effective means of preserving peace." -- General George Washington

THE SOLDIER

It is the soldier, not the protestor, that guarantees the right of freedom of speech.

It is the soldier, not the priest, that guarantees the right of freedom of religion.

It is the soldier, not the journalist, that guarantees the right of freedom of the press.

It is the soldier, not the police officer, that guarantees the right of due process of law.

It is the soldier, not the judge, that guarantees the right to a fair trial.

And it is the soldier; the one who salutes the flag, honors the flag, raises the flag at the beginning of the day, lowers the flag at the end of the day, folds the flag, and protects the flag, that gives American citizens the right to burn the flag.

Without men and women who love freedom so much that they are willing to stand up for it, fight for it, and yes -- even die for it, there is no freedom.

Freedom is not free. If you are an American and you enjoy your freedom, thank those veterans who preserved it for you in the past and those currently wearing the uniform who protect it for you today.

George S. Patton

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.
--John Stewart Mill--

"If they really wanted to honor the boy, they'd let him sit in the stands and watch the people march by!"

Forgot who said this, but I think it's fitting everytime there's a parade honoring the troops.

I have no respect for soldiers for they are contributing to global violence and the murder of millions, sure we need defence, and in my opinion that's okay, however to send troops into foreign territory(eg.Iraq) Now that is to truly contribute to the death of many.
