ok i asked this earlier and my question was never even answered. no one explained why.

what my question is, if i or someone else were to write a book now, and claimed that what they wrote was directly inspired by god, would you believe then? why or why not?

how would this be different then beleiving in a book written more then 2000 years ago by people who only made the exact same claim. that god inspired them. what would be the difference?

If someone were to write a book now, claiming it to be inspired by God, I might believe them. I would read the book to ascertain whether or not it was consistant with other Biblical readings and with my own understanding of God in my heart. If the issue were serious enough, I would also pray for guidance. Assuming all these things lined up, then I could believe it was inspired by God. If it proved inconsistant with what I know about God and the faith, then I would have to conclude that it could not have been inspired by God.

It's no different than believing in a book written more than 2000 years ago by people with the same claim. The claim may be true, it may not. One would distinguish the truly inspired from the completely fabricated by the same methods - Scripture (or, lacking Scripture, tradition), conscience, and prayer.

I would examine the writings. I would see if they fit with my understanding of God's character. If it fit, I would treat the book as inspired by God. It's not much different than a musician writing a song. They say "I was playing my guitar the other day and all of a sudden God gave me words to a song." They claim that their song was inspired by God, and I don't see a book as any different. Who are we to reject that an idea is inspired by God, just based on a line from Revelation (which is taken out of context anyway, as Revelation wasn't written as the last chapter in the Bible...)?

Well the thing about the Jews and Christians (not muslims they feel that god told them what to write in the quoran rather then be inspired) was that they have had a following since before there books of worship was written. It was a commen belife that these were true events and that they were just being written down. Alot of people experienced what happend and the storys typically parralel what actually was going on at that time.

b/c the Bible is complete, nothing missing. If you were to write a book and claim it were the words of God you would be a false prophet. Very simple. Besides the Bible is full of historical facts, no way would your book have a track record like the Bible.

I believe that some books are inspired by God, even written by God using an author as a tool.

But I also believe that anyone who comes out and says that about a specific book, esp. one they have written, is psychotic.

The bible was written by 40 different authors over a period of 1500 years with complete consistency and unity of theme and purpose. A book titled "The Signature of God" by Grant Jeffrey goes into the scientific, historical, geographical and archaeological proof for the bible. I personally found this book astonishing. Peace :-)

because the Word is a living breathing book. how do you feel when someone just carries a bible without saying a word about Jesus? that is the power of the Word to convict us of our sins. how do 40 authors write 66 different books and no 2 contradict one another? should I go on? read the book "case for Christianity"

Because only the word of God is breathed by The Holy Spirit:
Timothy II 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

God breathed, Jesus Christ the foundation.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.
John 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
The very word of God is Jesus Christ, breathed by the Holy Spirit, authored by God, using his prophets.
John I 1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;

No. Here's Why:
1.) You CLAIMED it to be.
You're not the pope, just some random bloke.

2.) Even though the Bible was written by Man, was yours deemed the Holy Book?
I don't think so. Such blasphemy.
