My 5 month old kitten is afraid of my husband. She will not come out of her bed when he is around. When he walks into a room she runs like hell in the other direction. When he holds her she sinks real low to the ground and has her ears back like she is flinching. I know you may be thinking that he might have done something to her but he hasn't! This is his first cat and he was so excited to get her and is desperately trying, but she is petrified! Anyone ever seen this before? Will it go away? Should we give the cat away for both their sakes?

my cat was like this to my brother. it stopped eventually. it takes a little while. dont get rid of the cat. he should not pick up the cat until she gets used to him. he could try to feed her treats, pet her gently and feed her. that way she might come around more and get used to him.
good luck

Try putting the two in one room and have him just be quiet and doing something like reading a book. give them a while like this then have him take a toy and play with her where she's at, a long toy like a feather on a stick or mouse on a string. That way he's not so close but she still sees who's holding the toy. The go back to being quiet. Have him feed her treats every once in a while. Do this like once a day until she gets used to him. Don't get rid of the cat she just needs some time and patience.

Sounds to me she was abused by a man.

Now did you adopt the cat from a pound? If you did then as a kitten your cat may have been beaten by a man and that may be why she is acting the way she does. Just make sure that your husband spends as much time with the cat as possible. Get him to put soft cat food on his fingers and let the cat eat from his hand. and just let him love the cat

My cat is not very young and he is still afraid of my dad even though he's not doing anything to him. When my cat sees him he runs the other direction, too! I don't know if he will ever stop doing this.

He should not be pushy about it. This only scares the kitty more. Have him feed her kitty treats and put food in her bowl. The best thing is to just hang out and do as he normally does. The kitty's curiousity will get the best of her one day and she will want to see what's going on with him. Have him lace his shoes and do other interesting things to catch her attention but be VERY careful not to let her know you are trying to lure her out. Good luck!

Does he have any unusual features? (wears a hat all the time., has a beard., wears glasses., etc.)

Some animals don't like unusual appearances (like men in hats, for example). If the hat isn't there, the animal is fine.

Anything that isn't what the cat considers as "normal" for humans may get it scared.

try to make a point of having him serve her the wet food. also, if possible, have the kitten see him add dry food in her bowl, and change her water, and clean her litter box.

food, water, and personal hygiene are the most important facets to animals. maybe if she see's him making an effort to provide her with her needs, she will warm up! Good luck!!!

Hmmm, has he been around other animals somewhere? Perhaps the kitten would smell this.
