There were many thousands of pounds of Turkey and ham that were recalled for health reason this year on the Friday after Thanksgiving. That is most likely the reason your aunt was telling you that, it should not be a normal occurance.

No, but they are finding that people will eat leftovers LONG after they should. Did your aunt tell you WHY you shouldn't eat it? Maybe she didn't cook the turkey enough, maybe someone else got sick from the same dinner....?

You should only eat leftovers the day after it's originally cooked or freeze it. After that, you need to toss it.

If you still have leftovers from last Thursday---THROW IT OUT!

If leftovers are left at room temperature then you will more than likely become sick. If you refrigerate left overs then you will be fine as long as you do not keep them too long. My general rule is; refrigerate leftovers and eat them within a couple of days or freeze them for later usage.

Your Aunt could be right, It depends, on who took care of the food after the big feast.... If it was properly handled and refrigerated, soon after the original meal was served, it should be safe, its usually better the next couple of days, you can relax and enjoy leftovers

I usually don't eat them if they are a week old, but anything thing before that is fine. Unless she called to tell you not to eat them because someone else got sick from eating them.
