Dogs are very smart and if you study them closely you will be amazed! I believe that they try their very best to tell us what they want,I have had my pups to bring me an empty bowl, and I had no idea the bowl was empty. My older dogs have a way of letting me know all sorts of things ,for instance ,when his Anal Glands fill up and need expressing he will just park hiself down right in front of me and stare right through me if I don,t get it he will move on to the next person and on and on until someone asks me "What Is Wrong with Kennedy?" Usually I get it first but their have been a few times that I was busy and didn't pay attention.I believe dogs do talk to us in their own way!

cool! No I don't think you're nuts. Just happy with
your dog.
The only bit of advice I would have is to keep it up
and to make sure that the dog knows that you are
in charge. It is easy at this stage to cater to the
dog's every whim just because it is so fun to
see the dog communicate to you. But, I think in
the long run, you will both be very happy if the dog
will accept simple commands like "wait" if you happen to be busy on the phone or taking a burning pot off the stove. As long as the communication goes both ways, then indeed you
will both be impressed with each other and impressive to others.
I'm guilty of being a servant to my dogs, but it is
fun to do. Lately I just have to pretend to reach for
the keys and all chaos breaks loose.

The more you talk to your dog the more she will learn. A lot of people think that training only involves specific things. What some don't realize is that your daily routine, your habit of talking to your dog as well as many other things is teaching her a ton! You'll see soon that your dog will learn when you're going to bed at night. She'll know that after you brush your teeth it's bed time (or whatever your routine is). She'll know when you put your shoes on that it's time for a walk, or when you head for a certain cabinet that's where the treats are. Especially the breed you have. They are capable of learning so much!
Keep talking...she's listening!

You cant really believe that is the first dog that has ever moved curtains to look out a window. My dog will run to the sink if I ask him if he wants water. He will sit there until I fill his bowl.If I say are you hungry or yum yum he will go to his bowl and wait to be fed.He brings me my sandles. He watches other dogs on tv.He carrys my kitten through the house like a mother would carry a kitten.I can go on with all he does which is far more then what your dog does.I dont consider my dog the smartest dog in the world. My dog is just trained.(except he learn to carry the kitten on his own). Most dogs is doing more then what your dog is doing.I would take advantge and train him well and teach him to do odd tricks.

No you are not nuts. Animals learn by repetition. She has learned that when she does certain reactions she gets what she wants. You can call it indirect training if you want to put a name on it. You have trained her to do these things without even trying so I would have to agree that she is an above average dog when it comes to brains!
No offense but if she was the smartest dog in the world she would feed herself, LOL!!!

Most of mine are pretty clear about what they want. If I ask what they want, they have ways of letting me know if it's food, water, outside etc. I have to be good at understanding, though. For example, some of mine will scratch at the back door to go out, others will simply sit by the door, some will stare at me and a couple will jump up and put thier feet on the walls (NOT by the door. Weird, I know, but it means they have to go out NOW).

i used to breed aussies and part of the breeds qualities involves what is called 'eye' . eye is kind of a physic stare the dog uses to move and direct the animals being herded. anyone who has trained an aussie or border collie will often wonder both if these dogs arent physic and if the dog isn't way ahead of the trainer. i have personally witnessed these dogs doing things and resp onding to their owners without signal or command. you are very fortunate indeed to have such a relationship and to have an animal that is both a compliment to the breed. and to the breeders . regarding the boy friend , it would seem that the dog is attuned to you moreso than he is. hm-m-m-m-?

Dogs are intelligent. Their smell is alot better than humans. They also watch and learn. Also routine they know. Mine know when it is about time for their daddy to come home from work. Also the sound of his truck. They wait in the window when it is about time for him to come home. When you repeat a word and then the action- they learn the words. My rat terrier knows squirrel- she will look in the trees when you say this. And we have opossum that eats outside at night. It took only two nights of me saying opossum and Ginger relates the word to the object. Don't put anything pass your pup, they are really amazing. Mine know the word hungry, thirsty, play, outside, no, good girl treat, sit, lay down, shake, speak, come here, tete, dodo, no kitty, stay and other words. Have fun teaching yours our language and actions. GOD BLESS YOU! sus04mc@yahoo.com

I'm a firm believer that dogs let you know what they want. I don't think that she likely understands what you are saying, but dogs communicate through body language, and thus will understand more than one may think. Hearding dogs are also very intelligant. Keep reading your dog, and she'll let you know all kinds of things!
