Carbonated beverages in general are bad for your health, but diet sodas are even worse. They contain chemicals and artificial sweeteners, which have been linked to cancer. I would recommend drinking water. Fruit juices are okay occasionally, but they contain a lot of sugar and they're just not as good for your body as the fresh fruit.
I doubt you would lose a significant amount of weight by just cutting diet sodas out of your diet. You will probably look a little thinner if you stop drinking sodas because they have a tendency to make the abdominal area bloated, but you won't lose weight unless you start eating healthy meals of moderate proportions and you exercise thirty minutes at least 2 or 3 times a week.

Well, a lot of people are answering a question, it just doesn't happen to be the ones you're asking. The answer is no, you can't gain weight from drinking diet sodas. The only thing that affects your fat gain/loss is calories. In most diet sodas, there are none. Therefore, it will have no effect.

My experience with diet soda (and I had a really bad jones) was that it made me crave 1) sugar and 2) more diet soda. Plus all the chemicals and the fact that carbonation is bad for your bones - you are so much better off with water. I am diabetic and I noticed in my Diabetic Prevention magazine that diet soda, along with regular soda, is listed as dangerously raising your blood sugar.

I could help. Try substituting the diet soda for water. It's hard at first, if you find water boring, try the fruit flavor water instead. Make water a little more bearable. I've lost a few pounds by switching to water only. It would also depend on your lifestyle and diet in general.

Don't think you can gain weight from the diet soda. You certainly can lose weight from not drinking them if they are part of your regular routine.
