Persecute. Here's a good example. Jesus was persecuted, He was hit with the cat of 9 tails, His beard was pulled out, He was spat on. He was nailed to the cross for no reason. people just attacked Jesus just because He was the Son Of God.

You can take the example of the early days of the Mormon Church, where its members were persecuted to the point of death, they were shot, robbed, raped and pillaged, for nothing more than their beliefs. They were hounded out of their homes, literally.
This is what persecuted means.

A racist would persecute other races. Perhaps by hanging them.

I am treated as evil by those who feel persecuted because they are not allowed to force me to believe as they do.

To be made fun of, ridiculed, harassed, abused...is what I think it means to be persecuted and when I hear that I think of Jesus and how He was persecuted and crucified.
