My four year old daughter up until last year slept easily. When she turned 3 all of a sudden she stopped falling asleep. I put her in bed at 8:30 and she doesn't fall asleep until close to 2 a.m. She doesn't get up or cry or yell, she just sings quietly to herself or just lays there. I have tried everything from bed time rituals, lavender baths, body massages, warm tea, warm milk, rubbing her back, rocking her... everything you can think of i have tried, I don't know what else to do and she is not getting enough rest.

make sure she is expending enough energy during the day. put her on a sports team or have her go for long bike rides/walks with you. if you wear her out enough she will not only sleep like a baby but she will be healthier... it's win win.

Does she take a nap during the day? If so, this could be why. If that is not a problem, are you going to bed at the same time as your daughter? My 4 year old little girl is the same way and it is because she is scared to death she is going to miss something. If we all go to bed at the same time, she is usually fine. However, if I stay up to tidy up, watch tv, anything, she is right back up. She will do this no matter how early she woke that morning, no nap, no matter how late it is. She sometimes just has to get still on the couch for a second, while wating on me to go to bed, and she falls asleep.

quit naps all together. take her outside for an hour before bath time. that will make her tired. also no sugar just cut it out all together. no fruit juice or anything at all with sugar natural or not in it. turn out any night lights and give her dark curtains. don't allow her to sing to herself or to play, tell her that it is bed time no talking singing or playing at all just lay there and keep your eyes close. good luck.

have you cut out her afternoon nap? sweets at night? Did you talk to her and ask her why? Maybe she needs to see a child psychcologist for a short period of time. Have you had your church pastor pray with her or talk to her. Has anything happened in the last year that may have scared her?

I was just suggested to try Hylands Calm Forte' For Kids for my little boy who wakes in the middle of the night. It really works. He seems to relax better and I get some sleep too.
