Im having my friend and her dog over today. I want our dogs to like eachother and not be intimidated by one another. My dog is not agressive at all and never has been. My dog is a collie black lab mix and my friends dog is a dachsin. How can i socilize the two of them?

Keep each of them on a leash and introduce them with both of you there.
Praise them if they are nice to each other.
If they are aggressive at all, you need to keep them separated until they calm down and can be nice.
Daschunds can be feisty so expect that she will be nervous in a new home and will take a little time to warm up. Don't force it. Just reassure the dogs a lot.

Hope it all works out!

Definitely let them meet on neutral territory--down the block or something. The first thing you and your friend should do is take the two dogs for a nice walk (at least half a hour) so they have time to get used to being in the same space, but not being totally occupied with, each other. At the end of the walk, let the less dominant dog sniff the other one. If that goes well, let the other dog sniff the less dominant one. Hopefully that should go a long way toward the dogs behaving when they're both back at your house.

Introduce the dogs first on leash outside the house, preferably also outside your yard. Ideally, take them for a little walk together and see how they get along. Only if that goes well should you proceed to throwing them loose in the house together.

Keep in mind that there is black and white "aggressive" versus "non-aggressive". If one dog is overly "friendly" and bouncing on the other dog's head, that other dog is well within his rights to growl or snap at the bouncing dog to tell him to knock it off. Try to watch the actual dog behavior and try to avoid labels to what you expect will happen.

It's great when two dogs can chase and play and wrestle, but keep in mind that polite dog behavior is just like human dog behavior -- you can't just go out in public and hug and smooch and jump on and hang on every stranger you see. People will get ticked off and will probably yell at you, or maybe even take a swing at you. Dogs are the same way, and some dogs really enjoy being physical with each other, and not all dogs do. Furthermore, different breeds often have different play styles (chase versus wrestle, gentle versus rough play). If these two don't want to socialize in the same way, don't force the issue.

Good luck... I hope they have a good time!

Hello, do not put them together at first. If you let them get use to each others smell at an distance and gradually let them in the same room on leases. You never know how a dog will react. They maybe jealous of the other dog and you - or vice versa. Take it slow- if you rush then it maybe something that cannot be undone. GOD BLESS YOU! sus04mc@yahoo.com

They will probably be fine given thier temperments...but...
Your dog may sense his territory being invaded. Try meeting your friend up the street from your house in an area that isn't your dogs territory. Let them get to know each other a bit, them walk them back to the house.
You might want to remove any food or favorite toys to be sure there aren't conflicts over them.
I'm sure everything will be fine.
Best wishes!

When you interduce them be casual about it, don't make a fuss, let them sniff eachother with the leashes on, if anyone gets agressive pull back the leash and correct him nicely at first, they will get the idea that they are to be friends, then you can relax and wath them play

Be very careful, some dogs may appear friendly to humans and other dogs outside the home. But your home is your dog's territory. He may be perfectly fine, but don't take any chances and don't let them out of your sight.

Best of luck
