i am not looking to decide whether to propose to my man or not. we already know we both love each other, we have talked about having kids, and yes also talked about marriage. we are both for the most part traditionalists. i am a hopeless romantic and always wanted that perfect proposal. so this was just a curiousity question..no alterior motive to it.

A friend of mine got engaged to a girl who proposed to him. Me personally think it is a great idea and it should matter who proposed to who, but he had to wear a "man-ring" and he also is a cop so you can imagine all the guys at the station ripping him a new one. I really think traditionally the guy should ask. I even asked her Father's permission to marry her :-) Talk about old school!! If the guy wants to marry you and you are ready you should let him know if he already truly doesn't know. It will work out in the end and Im sure the girl will love what extravagant gesture the guy will make when she is asked 'will you marry me"

I don't think I would ever propose to a guy, but I guess I'm a traditionalist.....I don't see anything wrong with it if that's what other people want to do...just make sure you're with the kind of guy who won't be uncomfortable with your taking what some men might consider to be a man's role by asking.

Yes, I have last week actullay. We've been together for 6 1/2 years and he kept saying he would ask me. Needless to say I did get sick of waiting, so one day I went and bought him a ring took him out to eat and asked him. He said yes and we are getting married summer of 07. My fiance loved it and he was really shocked. A few times over the years he has told me, "you could always ask me you know."

My boyfriend and I were at the mall outside a jewelry store and I asked him if he wanted to go in the store. He says, "OK". I picked out a diamond ring and asked him if he wanted to buy it for me and he says, "OK". That was 33 years ago and we look back on it every now and then and laugh. We knew we loved each at the time and somebody had to speak up or we'd still be single.

If I was in the right situation i would love it if a girl proposed to me. It is definatly not something that would freak me out. Just seems like women always expect it to be the mans prerogative, waiting for the ring, bling, bling.
