a crown is not a real tooth---so you would have to get another root canal and crown if you were feeling pain--when you get a root canal and crown the original tooth is filed down so you cannot get a cavity anymore

Usually they'll have to take the crown off, but I've heard of them actually drilling through the crown. It's not that hard, but tooth under crown hurting is never a good sign. You might have had a botched root canal.

No, they have to take it off.
The only other way would be to drill from the sides of the tooth, and that cannot be remade easily.

Heh, I'm undergoing Root Canal right now. Just the crown left.

I was told by my dentist, that they can drill through a crown to fill a cavity. Trying to save an expensive crown. I hope that you feel better.

Not that it is an issue, but since you put this in religion and spirituality, would you like some prayer for your toothache?

They have to take the crown off.
Sounds like they should've done a root canal before they put it on. Ugh, dental pain!
Best wishes to you!
