They don`t HAVE to replace work shoes.
Speaking as an employer myself, I replace work shoes when the old are unsafe (usually every 3 to 4 months)
As a good will gesture.

I don't know of a work place that replaces shoes. What kind of work are you talking about? I have to buy my own shoes.

i don't know but if shoes are being used day in day out it is advised they are replace every 6 months

Basically they have to provide you with safe working conditions. So they have to replace your footwear when it is unsafe to use.
There is no fixed time period.

Are they contractually obliged to provide you with shoes? If so check your contract.
