If you get dreadlocks put in when you're a teenager,
does this mean you will have dreadlocks for the rest of your life?
Shaving your head to remove them is deffinately not an option for me,
but if I get dreadlocks,
does this mean I'm making a life commitment?

I'm white/caucasian and my dreads came out after 6 months. They are pretty easy to get out of european hair without shaving your head.

No you can get them out. Dreadlocks are a way to not have to clean your hair but you can get them out.

anyone can get dreads removed by combing them out... white hair will be easier to comb out but it can be done to black hair as well... as proven by naturallyyou magazine... (it's pricey too)... also i saw some kind of product at hot topic where u can get temporary dreadlocks... their are also dread extensions... also take a look @ http://www.temporary-dreadlocks.com/index.html

if you don't want to cut off your hair when you are no longer interested in the style. then don't do it, in a way it is just like a commitment and the maintenance of dreads are costly , especially since you want yours to look nice and not gross anyone out. i think dreads are nice if they are taken care of and are clean and lent free so think of all these things before you decide.

It depends. Go to someone that knows what their doing. I've seen dirty looking dreads, then some people have them and their hot! So go to a professional and don't try to twist them yourself. You'll damage your hair.

for black people you have to shave your head to remove dreadlocks you cannot untangle them becuz the entanglement is what holds them together...but looking at your avatar you appear to be white so i dont know how it would effect your particular grain of hair....just guessing i would think you would be able to untangle them

hmm, I am not sure about this but I think that it is like when you dye your hair.. when you do tat then you get roots, and probably when your hair grows the tops will be the natural wave you have always had. cause in the piartes of the caribbean johnny depp had that , and he doesn't have that now.

well yes it really does b/c you can't get the hair unmatted and it starts to smell. Try twisting strands of your hair with gell so you can do a cool drea type look w/o having to commit.

i'm not sure what you race is.... with african american hair, dred locks have to be cut out. this doesn't necessarily mean shaving all of your hair off. it does mean cutting down to the new growth and your hair will be very short.
