The Eclipse GST and GSX are trubo charged. The difference is that the GST is front wheel drive, while the GSX is all wheel drive. Both are pretty quick. VERY expensive to maintain. Rotors and pads on my '97 almost cost $800 all the way around. For $3,000, you can pick an old body style Mustang with a 5.0 and have a nice car that is also very easily upgraded and cheap to fix. Even though you may be looking at a 94 or 95 model year, that would be a safe bet.

Get a 1995 Cougar 4.6 liter engine. The car weighs only 3400 pounds, plus with dual exhausts it's super fast. Almost as far as a Mustang GT.

trying to find a "fast" car for 3k is almsot impossible the closest thing youll be able to find in my opinion without spending a arm and a leg restoring or fixing is a mitsubishi eclipse GST or GTS i forget which but its the TURBO charged version. Decent quick little car 6k is the cheapest I think ive seen them... otherwise yoru not going to have much luck : / You can try a nissan 300z twin turbo as well but i think 4-6 k is the cheapest youll find those to.
