We are given the privilege and blessing of wearing the garments when we are endowed in the temple. They are sacred and there are several reasons we wear them: to remind us of covenants we have made, to stay modestly dressed, to protects us spiritually and physically. They are very sacred and special to us, I was so excited to be endowed because I was ready and understood the importance of what I was doing. I am still learning and learn every time I go to church or attend the temple. Thank heavens we don't have to be perfect, but we must at least be striving for that.

What is so secret about mormon underwear?

Sam, many people confuse the words "secret" and "sacred". While something that is secret is hidden from the world, something that is sacred means that is special or has some religious signifcance. Mormon garments (underwear) isn't secret. You can ask any missionary or member of the LDS church about them. They are, however, sacred. They remind members of the church that they have chosen to be obedient to the commandments of the Lord.

What other religions have special clothing?

There are many other religions, other than mormonism, that have religious clothing. Perhaps the most well-known example is the yarmulke, which is worn at special times by Jewish men or at all times by devout orthodox Jews. Priests in the Catholic church wear special collars to show their role. Catholic nuns may also wear special clothing that signifies the religious order to which they belong. In all cases the special clothing reflects the religious conviction of the wearer.

After dealing with the temple and making covenants with God (something that you'll in straight forward words many times do once you change 18), many Mormons (no longer all) opt for to positioned on clothing as a reminder of the covenants they made and a reminder of God and Christ. It also facilitates them be constructive to gown modestly, because the accurate area of the garment covers the tummy and the bottom area is going all the way down to easily above the knees. they're many times purely white and undeniable. there's no longer something "magical" or "keeping" about them, it really is purely for them to remind themselves of their faith, Christ, and their covenants.

St. Mike is pretty much on the mark. They are essentially a reminder of the sacred prormises we make to God as members of the church and in the temple. Purity is part of it, as is keeping focus on Christ and sticking to the teachings God has provided through Christ.

Many Mormons believe the garments provide some protection. I'm not Mormon...but I know lots of them.

Like the few above said, it is a reminder of the promise we made to God, and to remind us to keep our self pure and righteous, so we can be worthy of the blessing from God.

It is so that Mormon underwear makers can stay in business. The Mormon beliefs were pulled out of a hat, literally.
