well some people believe that the only way you go to the fire place is if you refuse to believe in him.
the similarities between god and santa claus are uncanny, except if you are bad, santa only punishes you with no presents on christmas but god makes you BURN!

Well, that might explain a little bit about what eternity is like without God, but No, that's not the point.
The Ten Commandments were given to the Israelites (they came before the Christians, by the way) along with more of the law because at the time, the people of God were having a hard time just following His voice. They actually asked for the Law. Before that, God was just perfectly content hanging with them and calling them His people and loving on them each day of their lives. But... as we all know, folks have a hard time believing, trusting, and obeying the Lord, so they wanted a rule book. They got it.
God's intention from the very beginning was simply to be in daily relationship with everyone. Unconditional love. It's us, the stubborn kids, who bring disaster upon ourselves. But, we can go back to the beginning. Jesus died on the cross to atone for our sins. The apology is already accepted. All we have to do is show up by believing in Jesus' sacrifice. Why would we believe in that? Because he not only died, but was rasied from the dead and ascended to Heaven to show all of us hard-heads (I did say "us") that He is who He says He is.
I think it's a tragedy that so many people are left with an impression of God that leaves them with a feeling of being just a naughty person that God delights in punishing. That's SO not the point. That's not His heart.
It's all about Love.
(I think I rambled a bit... sorry, I hope you can forgive me)

You don't get it,Sparky, but I'll try to explain it to you. God isn't an "invisible man in the sky", He's the all-powerful, all-knowing Creator of the universe who loves His creation enough to provide a way so that people like you and I can have a relationship with Him.God is Holy, and sovereign, and we're not. He gave us the Ten Commandments as part of the Law, which was designed to preserve His creation, not stifle it. God is infinite, so His love, mercy and grace are infinite as well.Hell wasn't created for you. Hell was created for Satan and his angels. Don't go there.

True.
But he did offer us a way out of that predicament. He sent his son to die on the cross for you and I,so that we would not have to die in our sins, and yes go to hell for eternity separated from God.
God does love us,but he is also holy and just, therefore he cannot sway to the left or right.
Jesus is sort of the canopy over us that keeps God from passing judgment of the most horrible kind.He is the mediator between us and the father.Jesus died on our behalf,so that we can enter into the kingdom of Heaven.

To borrow from an excellent question posted a few hours ago: Infinite punishment for sins committed in a finite life.

I must say as a fellow (yet confused) atheist/agnostic this is getting old. What do you hope to accomplish by harassing the believers?
Hell is being misused by many.(1)

God is not any kind of form. What is form is of the mind. What the mind cannot comprehend such as true Love, Joy, and Peace comes from the ONE whom we call GOD.

Your parents, while you were growing up, presumably loved you. And yet if you murdered your next-door neighbor, your parents would have a problem on their hands, wouldn't they?
Love does not preclude justice. Actual love demands justice. Otherwise, it is enabling, which is hatred.

This is not true. Our heavenly Father does live in heaven, and he is watching over everyone, and he loves us unconditionally. The ten commandments are guidelines, we already know that killing someone is wrong and yes you can be condemned to hell for it.

Haven't you convinced yourself yet? If you knew for a fact there wasn't a God you wouldn't be wasting your time in the R & S section. Your still grabbing straws just like the rest of us.
