Plenty of freeware available to convert to mp3 but batch processing such a large number of files may result in errors and/or program crashes - looks like you'll have to set aside some time...

Download and install iTunes from www.apple.com/itunes. It's free and generally quite marvellous.
When you first open iTunes the wizard will offer to scour your computer for music and import it to iTunes, converting WMA files as necessary. DON'T DO THIS because they'll end up in iTunes' default AAC format.
After the wizard go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Importing, choose MP3 Encoder from the dropdown box and hit OK. Now you should be able to add WMA files to your library (drag and drop or use the options on the File menu) and have them converted to MP3.
As with any conversion of this sort, some quality loss may occur, but it is usually negligible.

MusicMatch Jukebox will do exactly what you want.
A word of knowledge: Whenever you convert audio from 1 lossy format (WMA) to another lossy format (mp3), you will experience sound degradation. Whether it is discernable, or not, may depend on the bitrate and the song. You are always better to go from lossles (CD, Flac, WMA-Lossless, Apple Lossless) to lossy.
That being said, MusicMatch will do what you want in the shortest amount of time.

you need to get a program such as Acoustica MP3toWave Converter. It also gives you the option (if you want) to convert them to wave format, which then can be compressed in Sound Recorder

Windows media player should do it.
Look in Tools/Options/Rip Music and set output to Mp3.
Then open music you want to convert, remember to set your destination folder..

A freeware tool is Audacity, but thats a lot of files and I don't think it does batch conversions.
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ -Audacity music tool.
Search Download.com and Sourceforge to see if you can get a batch converter; you can for image files so someone must have written one!
M4rkmy3rs is right about lossy formats too.
