If they are in enough danger that they need a weapon, they should go to the police and seek protection.
The law errs in favor of the child seeking help. If you really know someone who is being abused to the point that they need a weapon, please call the police on their behalf.

The movement to end child abuse in the United States is already underway amongst professionals in the field. It began with a paper: Unto the Third Generation, written by Victor Vieth, director of the National District Attorney's Associations Child Abuse Programs and calls for the following:
1. Increased reporting of child abuse-child abuse in the US is still highly unreported
2. Better training for professionals who work with children about how to spot abuse, report abuse, investigate abuse, and prosecute abuse-Many reported cases of abuse are never prosecuted due to lack of evidence and poor investigation
3. Development of a Nationally recognized training program for interviewing children who are abused-To prevent the tainted interview and suggestibility problems that occurred in the daycare cases in the 1980's professionals must be trained on how to talk to kids, to this end 17 States will be certified by the end of 2007 to train professionals in Finding Words, a nationally recognized training program for interviewing children.
4. Enlisting the support of the Faith community in ending child abuse
5. Prevention efforts which are locally run and tailored to meet local needs
6. A unified voice within the child protection community that can raise awareness and funding levels-we invest one nickel for every 100 dollars of societal costs of child abuse whereas we invest 2 dollars for every 100 dollars of societal costs of cancer even though the rate of child abuse is 10 times the rate of cancer
7. An understanding of the history of where we have been so we don't replicate the mistakes of the past but instead build on existing strengths to make a more promising future.
Arming children is not the answer. Arming adults with the tools need to combat abuse is.

How about we keep child abusers/molestors LOCKED UP. Enough of this "registering" convicted sexual offenders, and limiting their exposure to kids, and rounding them up every Halloween.
Build new jails. Fill them with pedi-creeps.

A six year old with a gun will probably just end up shooting him or herself.

Simple.
If we execute every sex offender and abuser, then eventually there will be no-one committing those crimes.
