I think teens are a little too old to be getting hit by belts.
Is there a high school guidance counciler you could speak to about this?
I don't think calling the authorities is the best answer, because it may lead to more violence. Try talking to him more, maybe he'll reason with you. Tell him how it makes you feel when that happens, and that good parents don't hit their children to teach them lessons---the reason with them and ground them!

There is no black and white answer. Although the dad's behavior is serious enough to get a visit from child protective services, it may not be enough to have the child removed. Most states requie that all instances of child abuse be reported. The father should undergo, at the very least, some anger management courses and discover why he needs to show physical force against a child. This behavior is NOT ok. Unfortunately, most people will not just change. I worked with families who had their children taken, and most of the time it did little to improve them still. Occasionally, however, this is just what they needed to change their behaviors. Please report.

You are the 15 yr old who changed his report card grade and got grounded. I saw your question yesterday. Anyway, think about what would happen if you reported your dad to the CPS. They come out and do an investigation, and IF they find that he is guilty of abusing you, he either goes to jail or you wind up in foster care. Or both. I think that if you behave, you won't get punished. Simple as that.

no you should not be getting hit with a belt, you are a young man and no one should treat you that way. talk to a counselor or a good relative. so what you changed a grade or whatever, you should not be abused for it, grounded yes. if you tell on him that might make every thing soooo much worse, if you don't tell one day you may do something drastic because you can't take it any more. find an adult to talk to. good luck. no matter what happens stay in school!!!!!

Even though there may be a way to make this dad change, child abuse is illegal, and should be reported, no matter what.

I dunno. This is tricky. I dont know what kinda kid you are. There are always 2 sides to the story. I support corporal punishment. I do spank my children, but never with any object. A teenager is a little old to be getting spanked with a belt, but I suppose Id hem my 15 year old up if he was f'ing up.
