I have the princess cut and its MUCH more sparkley than the round one, Looks MUCH bigger, BUT... Costs more usually. If I had to choose I would keep my princess cut over any other cut out there, I think its the prettiest. I've never broken it... honey, Its a diamond. If it breaks that easily, its not real!

RE:
Round vs. princess-cut diamond?
Of a round diamond and a princess-cut diamond of the same carat weight:
1) Which one is more sparkly?
2) Which one looks bigger?
3) Which one costs less?
Also, since a princess-cut diamond has 4 sharp corners, would it be easily broken if you accidentally banged your hand against a hard...

The round diamond shape is the most popular shape and accounts for about 75% of all diamonds that are sold. The reason being that, due to the way it is cut, it maximizes brightness. The princess cut diamond has a square or rectangular shape and it’s the second most popular diamond shape after the round diamond. The reason why the princess cut is cheaper and more affordable than a round cut is due to the fact that the yield from the rough stone is 80-90%, whereas the round diamond yield is about 40%. The larger the yield is the more affordable the diamond is.

Sparkly - round (if cut well)
looks bigger - round (if cut well)
Costs less - dpends on what you are looking at
Just as a note though..you can't break a diamond but a diamond can break you. Those four corners can be sharp...I one got a nice cut on my arm due to my sister talking with her hands and her princess cut catching me. I have a heart shaped stone, but it has a nasty point too...bet my spouse was not thinking about that when it was picked out!

1.) The best cut
2.) The best setting
3.) The least valuable
You can actually damage a diamond(as in chip it), but they won't shatter unless they are put under an awful lot of uneven pressure.
The best thing to do is to find a diamond exchnage which has the approximate carat weight you require and try them on. The setting has a lot to do with how a diamond sparkles as well as the 4 C's: Cut, clarity, carat weight and color. You'd do well to do a little homework before you go running off to buy a solitaire with your fiancee, the thing is going to be with you for an awfully long time and you don't want a chunk of quartz hanging off your ring finger. A very nicely cut, 1 carat A-F color, VVS-IF clarity stone with good symmetry will run around $10,000 and up. That's before you have it set...

The spark depends of the clarity and quality of the diamond, and it doesn't solely depend on the cut.
The brilliance of the cut, a round cut pergaps has more cornes that trap the light and makes tit appear more sparkly.
A princess cut diamond cost more because the diamond has to be bigger and of better quality than a round one, because you can hide flaws on a round diamond with cuts and corners to make ir appera more sparkly, on a princess cut a flaw could be easily spotted. Also, there are more prongs on the setting of a princess cut tahn on a round one.
I personally prefer a Princess cut diamond. They are more classy and fashionable.
Good luck

I love my princess cut diamond!! I think it is more sparkly and it does look bigger than it is. I think that the cut stands out more too. The corners aren't an issue for me because the prongs that hold the diamond in the setting are around the corners so no worries there. Princess is the best without a doubt in my mind.

I love my princess cut ring. The princess cuts give the diamond more character and shape. However, the princess cut does usually cost more because it is a more desired cut. I also think that the princess cut looks bigger because of the square setting. Really though, the spikiness depends on the type of cut and the color grade. Good Luck!

1...depends on the clarity, color, and cut (not the shape)
2...my opinion princess
3...probably the round one
Diamonds are very hard to break, if you bang against something you aren't strong enough to break. no if something heavy falls on it, then it might...but so will your hand/fingers....lol
