the only reason I can think of is that certain senior citizens are well off and able to pay their share or they are covered by excellent leqacy benefits

The federal government should only pay for those goods and services which the private sector should not.
If you start with the understanding that government only gets money (taxes) at the point of a gun (law enforcement), and that it does nothing to generate its own revenue (sell goods or services), you will begin to understand that the government does not spend its money. The government spends OUR money.
So why should you or I pay for health care for citizens over 75? Well, why didn't they pay for the same thing for people over 75 when they were working? Simple - there's no Constitutional justification for it. Such a plan would have to come about as law; such a law would be unconstitutional.
Still not convinced? Then why not pay for citizens over 65, 55, 45, 35 or 25? Heck, why not everyone? Well, they tried that in the Soviet Union. It didn't work. Want an example closer to home? Look north to Canada where thousand die every year waiting for government-provided health care.

Because some of those senior citizens are millionnaires. The only money the government has is money it has taken from its citizens in taxes. So if the government made you and me pay taxes and used that money to pay 100% of all health care for all millionaires over the age of 75, then you and I might not like that too much, don't you agree? That's why.

And now for the economic argument:
Seniors (or anyone for that matter) that has every bit of their healthcare covered by someone else, tend not to take care of themselves the same way as someone who is financially responsible for their own care would.
When it's you paying the bills, you tend to act differently then when someone else is.
That being said, all people should be at least partially repsonsible for their own health care costs to reinforce that there is a cost and hopefully you'll take better care of yourself if it will save you money in the long-run,

Becuase healthy lifestyle and nutrition should be focused on over PILLS. All the current medical system does is push PILLS.
Why not force taxpayes to teach and educate people of all ages the importance of a healthy lifestyle?
Why not build more commuity fitness centers?
Paying for health care only allows the health care industry make more profits while pushing pills down peoples mouth

Ummmm Teresa the Government doesn't pay for ANYTHING. They use the tax dollars taken from those of us that work for a living. Now while I can appreciate your compassion toward the elderly I'd really prefer to keep more of the money that I work for so that I don't have to rely on the Government to use other people's money to provide me health care when I get older.

Why would they pay for Kennedy or Rockefeller's health care?
Yes but with income stipulations. Middle class & the poor do & will continue to have trouble paying for rising heathcare cost
& deserve help but the wealthy should pay their own cost.
No one should have to do without care because of money.

There is no government.
There are only people who pay taxes. We are the government. Why should I pay for someones health care? Regardless of their age? Who give you the right to steal from me? As I recall that's the defination of slavery.
As nobel as your cause sounds, you have to remember, there is no such thing as government money.
My advice to you: Look to the free market for a healthcare solution.

It will not be the government paying for this. You will be paying for it through increased taxes and decreased spending on other needed social programs.
Remember that the money has to come from somewhere and and that every dollar spent on one thing is a dollar that cannot be spent on something else. For example more money to senior healthcare either becomes less money for economic investment (through higher taxes) or less money for other needed programs (like education).

Because people over 75 are at the highest risk of dying...because that's how life works. And if they're going to be constantly sick, ill, or injured and the government is paying for it...really that means we, as the tax paying public, are paying for it.
I pay for my own health insurance, I'd rather not pay for someone elses. I'd pay for my parents if I had to if they were over 75, but I'd rather not pay for your parents. Especially if they spent their whole life drinking and smoking being lazy and out of shape.
