poker bots are not a myth. However they dont really pose a threat. A poker bot will never be as good as a skilled human. these bots inhabit the low to mid stakes games & simply play straighfoward LIMIT poker(not no limit). THese bots are no different than a very tight/solid unimaginative real player & only win because the other players are so bad.
Any player can win 10 hands in a row with junk... in poker anything can happen. I can tell you that the poker sites DO NOT chaet you because there is nothing in it for them. If you go broke they no longer collect rake from you therefore they lose money.
I have consistently won money at online poker for the past few years & have probably lost more than 10 all ins in a row before & have also won 10 in a row.
My advice: dont wory about bots, worry about your own play & learn that just b/c you have AA preflop doesnt mean you will win the pot. I personally would rather see 45 suited or 33 before the flop than AA because I am going to take someones stack when I hit a set of 3s & they have AA
PS Some of the answers you have already recieved are just plain wrong

Bots exist. But as has been correctly pointed out already bots generally play limit games. A player simply downloads a bot and leaves it to play medium stakes limit games. The bot uses very advanced math to pick the best play. A bot cannot have any inside information about what cards are going to be dealt, or what cards other players have.
Bots are a pretty stupid idea, because even with perfect strategy they can still lose, and I for one am not going to leave my computer logged on so that a computer program can gamble away my entire bankroll while I sleep! Especially since online sites watch for bots and if they think you are using one they will freeze your account and may never return your money.
As to those who talk about online poker sites using bots or cheating or any of the other nonsense you read, that is a myth. Online poker is a multi billion dollar business. The major sites are well regulated and well run. They make millions each month just by offering quality online games that are fun and legitimate. All it would take is one programmer to come forward with evidence of cheating and within a week that site would probably be offline. No multi million dollar company is going to risk the chance of losing everything just to cheat in this manner. There is no point in it, and the risk is too high.
If you saw an idiot raising with junk or calling all in bets with junk, that's poker! Well, to be more specific, that is low stakes idiot poker that you will find a lot online. I also play in a pub league and have been called down with total garbage only to be told when they beat the 10-1 odds against winning, 'well they were suited.'
There are some horrible players out there, and sometimes you really have to wonder what is going on in their heads. But people watch poker on TV and think that they can play like Gus Hansen. They can't. In the end, if you are patient and skilled you will take their money.
I wouldn't really worry about the whole bot thing. You are far more likely to lose to a good player than some computer program. Also play no limit and the bots are very few and far between. Even then, you should easily be able to outplay them.

Nope. Poker bots are not a myth. The University of Alberta has developed a poker bot program and has won every competition that they have entered. Since they developed their poker bot alot of people have tried to hack into their computer and steal the program.

Even if bots DO exist, they would NEVER play that way. They'd fold more hands than the average human, because the theory of a poker bot is it plays perfect poker. It would not chase idiotic drawing hands like you describe.

try to chat with him or her and see if they respond and how they respond. Sites like partypoker are rigged for tournaments, example, you go all in with a shorter stack against someone with a large stack and 9 out of 10 they will win regardless of what you have. This is so the tournament gets done faster and they can start another one. Remember, the more tournaments they run, the more cash they pull in.
In the cash games, if you have less cash and you get a good flop but a flush draw is out there, 80 percent of the time the other person will get the flush. A flush is almost as good as 4 of a kind in online games, so be careful of draws and check chip stack sizes before you go all in.
Bots can be used, but they are hard to run without being caught, just see if they are talking, and if it looks suspicious, you should go to another table.

All poker is is probablity and knowing when it is in your favor and against you. Bots can figure this out and use it to their advantage but it takes luck even with probablity to win every round. It is impossible to insure that but bots can do extremely well.
All bots have to do is figure the prob. and if it is above a specified lvl bet more.

I'm new to texas hold em too and I love it. I haven't actually played with real humans yet, just on my phone game. I'm afraid that the Gambling vibe I've been getting of my computer/gambler geek is that the Casino's are using good old mathematics to lull the player in and then take the majority of their money.

They exist, but they are usually not profitable, and are quickly found out by poker sites, banned and the money they've won is returned to the people they played against.

No pro don't win every single pot, but...sometimes it's your day! so if you're pro at poker and you have luck on your side...COOL.
But SERIOUSLY: 1 of the key in texas hold'em is AGGRESSION!!, you don't win with check and call. Bet and raise is winning poker.
BY the way I play for a living.....
