You should apologize. And the fact that he's a Muslim has nothing to do with it. You hit a person--I say, apologize. And if he lays charges--so much the better.

However you should apologize for assaulting a fellow human. The race, religion or creed of the person should not matter if you truly feel sorry and want to make amends for the punching.
(Unless of course you had a brilliantly good reason for punching him, in which case DON'T. Not because hes a Muslim, but because he's a JERK.)

If you punched him JUST for being a muslim, not only should you apologize but you should be punched back.
If you punched him because he did something to you that deserved a punching (and not a lot of offenses warrant physical violence like this) then why does it even matter that he was a Muslim.
I suspect this question was to get a rise.

you shouldn't apologize for punching a Muslim, you should apologize for punching a person in general, regardless or their race, gender, religion, or creed.
or maybe you should just not go around punching other people in the face.
