OK, here's the deal on the polygraph. They do NOT just ask you questions out of the blue. They will have 10 to 15 questions that they will discuss with you before the exam. Answer them truthfully. Once the examiner decides that everything has been discussed. The test will begin. They will ask what they call base line questions. Your name age whatever. They will tell you to respond to all questions asked for the baseline to be yes or no, depending on the examiner. The examiner will probably show you the response to your false answers. This is to show you that the test does in fact work. Kinda like messing with your head.
In the case of drug use, the question will be something along the lines " other than the incidents that were discussed, have you ever used....." They will not ask the discussed questions in the same order as when they are discussed to keep you a bit off balance.
The polygraph is NEVER like what you see on TV
Good Luck!

Well...it's not going to look GOOD. I guess it would depend on when you did it. Was is a stupid thing you did as a teenager, and you haven't done it in a long time, and have no intention of ever doing again? Just answer the question truthfully. They will ask when and why you did it, so be completely honest about that, too. If you lie, then they will find out and then you won't stand a chance. Can't hurt to try.

You could ask for clarification about this before the test starts. To me ever means your whole life. You do not need to have lived a perfect life in the past to become a police officer. The type of crime would be significant. Stealing a candy bar when you were eleven or taking a joy ride with a friend who stole a car when you were 15 is not as significant as killing someone or being involved in a string of major robberies when you were 17.

You better be straight about it and fess up. Unless you were alone in your room and never spoke about it, I assure you I will find out. Then you are toast for lyuing on an application. If you already lied and put down how you have never done cocaine, I suggest you stick to the story because if it comes up on the poly, your done. Here's my advice to the rest of you.....Don't do drugs!!!

If the polygraph shows deception on your part you will not likely to be hired with, or without a history of drug use. Be up front, and take your chances.

If it was up to me, I would not hire you, for one simple thing, you stated, "I have no criminal record as far as I know". If you do not know if you have ever commited a crime, then maybe you do need a polygraph. I don't buy that "I can't recall stuff".

Depends on how they ask the question as to how you answer. If they ask you have you ever tried drugs, simply say yes. Don't lie, because that is what they are looking for, to see if you will lie. They aren't that concerned about you trying a drug or two when your young and stupid.

I would not think that if you are honest about your past that the force would use that against you the main thing is honesty and the fact you do not use at the present time that it will hinder your employment
