Generally yes, because the window person can lean towards the wall, and the aisle person can lean into the aisle.

The middle person has to sit straight up, so why shouldn't they get both armrests?

Actually, I usually split it.. like, I get the back half of the armrest, and the middle person gets the front half.

And, the attitude of the person plays into how much consideration I give to them.

Sounds reasonable. Have some compassion people. Sitting in the middle seat absolutely SUCKS!!!

um i don't think so. i never take the arm rest just to avoid any conflict. it's a freakin armrest...not like a million bucks...

yes it is - they are stuck in the middle and have no chance to lean away to get away from you or the person on the other side.
