He is almost 16 weeks, and I feed him dry small bite puppy food. Sometimes I don't even hear him chew his food, sometimes he just swallows it. This has only happened twice now, but sometimes he eats so fast and so much at once, it causes him to throw it back up.

My questions are, How do I teach him to slow down? What can I do to help the situation? Or will he eventually learn on his own?

You can try and feed him less and more frequent during the day. Puppies will slow down with time. Keep in mind that he's just an anmial, and they have their primal instints to feed and survive. But with time he will slow down.

There are bowls with a raised bump in the middle or with three raised bumps in the middle. Basically, the bumps prevent the dog/puppy from scooping large mouthfuls of food at a time. You can get the same effect by putting a couple of tennis balls or other toys in the food bowl. She will have to eat around the toys so this will help to slow her down. Another option would be to give her about 1/4 cup of food and make her wait 10 or 15 minutes between feedings, or drop a few pieces of kibble in her bowl at a time while you are sitting there. It all depends on if you can sit and watch her while she eats or if you need to be doing something else.

Dogs don't normally chew there food, but you can control how fast he eats it by placing his food in a large container and putting big balls that he can't swallow in with the food. What that does is it makes the dog go slow to find the food and search through the balls. Not only will it slow him down it will also act as a brian activity. You could also try feeding very small meal all through the day.Good luck

eating fast is not a problem. but you can prevent him from throwing up by not feeding him as much. maybe feed him 4 times a day instead of 3. same amount just spread out over the day.

Put a brick or lagre rock in the bowl with the kibble. It makes the HAVE to slow down to eat.

mabie he is very hungry, get some good filling food and let him eat it as much as he wants till he finally gets full. then when ever he is hungry give him some so he will not snarf it down. if that dos not work then when you see him do it then just say "no" and gently pop him on the back end and he will not do it much.

Yeah...so???

Or ..So WHAT??
That's what ALL dogs DO!!!
Get over it.

And....why are you wasting money on "pup-feed"???It doesn't NEED IT!!!Any decent brand of dry *ADULT* feed is fine.
