I'm talking about toddlers and small girls. I don't think it's ever okay for a girl to go without a shirt. I just wanted to get some opinions. I have two girls, ages four and two, and I never let them go around without a shirt. My sister is ten and rarely ever wears one (Same dad, different mom). Are parents who allow their daughters to go shirtless setting them up for pedophiles? Or am I just losing it?

personally i don't think there is any reason for a little girl to not have a shirt on. she can wear a bathing suit in the pool or sun, little sundresses, or cheap tank tops if you are trying to keep her from getting dirty.

you have to teach modesty at an early age.

just like now we have a rule where you cannot sit to the table with a hat on or shirt off. it is just bad manners, in my opinion.

I agree completely with you. Unless the child is like a 2-3 month old baby girl, she should not be without a shirt. Does the 10 year old go out in public without a shirt!!! AHHH!!! I would approach your parents about it and tell them how you feel about the situation. My little sisters (7 and 10) sometimes sleep without a shirt on, but they never just walk around (whether inside or outside) without a shirt on. Esp, for the ten year old it is wrong because she's starting to mature (you get it) and yes, sicko's are going to go after a girl without a shirt on. Good luck! I hope your parents listen to you!

When I was a little girl, probably ages 3 through 6 or 7, if my mom sent me outside in the summer with a shirt on, she would likely never see it again. I would dig a hole and bury it. I played with a cousin who refused to be seen without her shirt. She had to wear a little terry cloth ruffle across her chest no matter how hot it was or what we were doing. It was just our personal preference as a child. We both were raise about the same and we both turned out about the same. But in this day and age I think 10 is too old to be going without a shirt.

Pedophiles are sick in the head and some are attracted to pre-pubescent children, but the 10 year old girl probably feels she has nothing to hide yet. It might be safe inside the home or in their own backyard. Girls develop at different ages from one another and until they're old enough to understand why adults wear shirts and notice the changes in themselves they're just being kids ... the children are innocent. Don't be too harsh with them as they have no clue yet. You can surely dress your own children how you and your spouse agree is appropriate, but the parent/s of your sister are the ones with control over that. I'd just have a talk with who's responsible for them and ... let it go as a 10 year old isn't likely to be without adult supervision .. shouldn't be anyway ... to protect against, whatever.

Don't worry about it. If you think it's wrong, then don't worry about it. If they both are girls and in the house, I don't see why they have to wear shirts. They older they get they need to. I don't see why or how a 10 year old is going around without a shirt. I had to wear a training bra then. Feel free to let your daughters go around now without a shirt, but once they get older, I would stop it. I mean not in public just at home. Good luck though!

Oh, I don't think there's anything wrong wtih a girl that age (2 and 4) to go without a shirt, but only in the house! However, the 10-year-old really needs to have one on.

my daughters ages 3 and almost 10 walk around shirtless or in their undies at home all the time. This is their home and they feel comfortable here. If we were outside like playing in the pool or something, my ten year old has to wear a shirt or her swimsuit, but my 3 year old can go without in my opinion. If we are in the pool though she wants to wear her suit, so its not an issue for us.

Uhh, after about 3 they need have a shirt on. I can just see some pervert getting off on these little girls. Why encourage it?
Just talk to your sister about some bad people maybe liking her shirtless and that it's not a good idea. If your dad won't make her wear one, maybe you could talk her into it. :)

You're not losing it!

I think it is ok for girls to walk around their home without a shirt on until they are about 8 or 9. If they are 5 or younger I don't see anything wrong with letting them run around on a hot summer day without a shirt on.

My three year old would run around (in the house and backyard) naked if we'd let her. Most of the time she is just in her Dora panties, unless we have company or go somewhere or it's too chilly. Naked or partially naked is normal for toddlers, within the confines of her home (however, she was naked all the time we were on the beach in Turks and Caicos) but when the child turns say, 5-6, it's time to observe decorum. At 10 years old, she will begin to blossom soon and needs to cover herself.
