I spoke against Puppy Mill owners last week at our State Capital. 27 Felony counts were issused and are being served! Our next stop is about 4 possible Puppy Mill owners in Missouri. The cities are, Springfield, and Poplar Bluff and Collins. We have enough information from past buyers, and people who didn't buy from these people to prove these claims along with overbreeding, questionable AKC parents, and dogs who can't be registered with AKC due to "Litter Flooding" from AKC Dogs long dead! The Breed we are speaking about are all Dobermans! If anyone has bought, or been in contact with ANY breeder in these cities, PLEASE contact me. Your comments, reply, & everything will be kept in confidence.Help us STOP the Puppy Mill Owners in Missouri, and in these cities! One breeder has 6 different breeds of dogs besides Dobermans in her puppy mill, with pups available ALL year long! Contact me at will!

We were working on Puppy mill owners in my state anyway, but I happened across this forum, and posted my question. The response was overwhelming! As a Vet for over 30 yrs, I was surprised! People contacted me about 4 so called breeders in Missouri, mainly of Dobermans. One breeder has 6 different breeds of dogs besides the Dobermans she sells. One of my patients bought one Red male from her, and it was not and never will be the "Show Quality" as her ads claimed. The pups ears were badly infected, and almost lost one, the pup now 2 is a big healthy doberman, and very much loved by his "Mommie." This breeder has a great website, very flashy, but will NOT answer your questions, and can NOT prove her so called Championship Lines. It's Possible FRAUD to advertise one thing and not be able to prove it! We will close them down, but we need HELP! No money, just info on any of the cities we named earlier. An HONEST breeder just does NOT have time to have that many pups at ONE TIME all the TIME!

To close them down forever, we need all the info we can get! If you have bought a dog, mainly Dobermans from any breeder in these Missouri cities, contact me ASAP! We are closing in on them, I hope they feel the heat, because it's going to get HOTTER for them! Again, KNOW your breeder, check them out, ask for references YOU can check, like past buyers, pictures, documents on parents & etc. DON'T fall for the line, "We don't keep past pictures!" Honest breeders will WANT to brag and show off the litters of the past ALWAYS! They are proud of them, they have NOTHING to hide from you, if they are HONEST!

Someone has ruffled her feathers. I am a retired Vet with over 30 years exp. Why would anyone think I don't want the truth about possible puppy mill owners? Even a "sometime" breeder wants the truth! Why don't you? If you're honest with people who buy your dogs, don't you want to know where they are going? Or in your own terms, "are you a crappy breeder?" I bet you're not, but why do you want to silence the truth? People have the RIGHT to know the breeder, and the claims he/she makes are TRUTHFUL! Do you have a problem with the truth?

NOT HELPING? What are you trying to say here? I was attacked in another forum here by a reader who said I was doing a "Personal Vendetta" against a breeder in Missouri! For your info, I turned down a breeder in Missouri,& have e mails to PROVE it & it's one that Dr. John is looking at! What are you worried about a puppy mill being shut down? They ALL need to be shut down! Think there won't be enough pruebreeds to go around? Only people who knowningly & willingly buy from puppy mills and the breeders need to be worried! so I say, "THANK YOU DR. JOHN!"

Way to go doc!

Have I got a file for you!!!! It is all hard copy as I was afraid I would lose it if something happened to my computer.

By all means, email me directly.

As for finding a reputable breeder, yes, the internet is an ideal place, but please start with www.akc.org or a breed specific club which usually has breeder referrals. For Dobermans, you can go to www.dpca.org

I was lucky enough to find my male doberman via the internet, but after initial contact, everything was done over the phone and in person. RESEARCH YOUR BREEDER THOROUGHLY!

Show and Hobby breeder are not the ones producing 6 litters of one breed over the course of 6-8 months, yet only have 2 or 3 females. (???) And don't have 3 or 4 other breeds they are mass producing litters with. Those that are breeding their poor females every heat cycle to provide pet stores with sickly pups just to line their pockets need to be stopped.

To KL:

All you usually need to do is look in the Classifieds of your local paper. You'll see people offering many different breeds of puppy at once, when a reputable breeder would concentrate on just one litter and usually just one breed, or two similar breeds e.g. two kinds of terrier. Puppy mills will often have dogs of all kinds of sizes and types for sale, such as poodles, chihuahuas, boxers, labs and german shepherds. No breeder in their right mind would be producing all of these, since working on one good bloodline is time consuming and expensive enough. They will often deliver puppies too, advertise them as Christmas presents, and sometimes even sell them online by credit card.

I easily agree. i'm in Texas the place, proper alongside the border, and its like a 0.33 international u . s . a . down right here. i'm no longer interior of reach so its surprising to me. I see human beings promoting "purebred schnauzers" out of their vans on street corners... different than wait that undesirable little pup appears like a labrador combination! I hate it, and not one of the immigrant inhabitants neuters/spays their animals so there are those forms of critters working around, getting hit by making use of autos, a minimum of that's how the consultant on the interior of reach humane society defined it to me. I rather much hit 2 distinctive chihuahuas in an analogous spot in an analogous week as quickly as, neither appeared spayed/neutered which might clarify the wandering! I see lifeless canines on the roads a minimum of another day. i got here upon a pregnant cat a month in the past - the humane society does no longer take her because of the fact they have been too finished from different outdoor bred animals. thankfully I holiday horses so she and her kittens grew to become barn cats and all have been at once neutered/spayed! what's particularly the topic is while human beings leave animals in tact no longer understanding it leads to over inhabitants, dying, ailment, starvation and so on and so on. they choose to witness "what's organic, the miracle of life," and then sell them for $50 on the corner. ok properly domesticating the wold wasn't precisely organic now replaced into it? we are finally to blame for his or her wellbeing and wellness so leaving an animal intact is morally incorrect.

If you shut down the commercial breeders WHERE do you think the pet buying public will get their PB puppies? From show breeders who breed only 5% of all registered dogs??? BETTER from a BYB or CB than one smuggled in from a country with NO laws against abuse and neglect.

How about if the people who are STUPID enough to buy a dog over the net from someone they don't know actually RUB a couple BRAIN cells together and THINK instead of misguided do-gooders like yourself passing laws that WILL end up affecting the GOOD breeders! They can't even FIND most of the puppy mills to enforce the current laws, how do they think they will find them to enforce any new laws!

Its called personal responsability, if you don't want to buy a pup from a crappy breeder, THEN DON"T! But quit pushing for laws that end up HURTING the show/hobby breeders!!!

But oh, thats right, you AR's are not interested in the actual truth...

I am sure your post will be popular amongst all the do-gooders on here who can't think their way out of a paper bag, they are all similarly ignorant of the sad and scary state of this country and its anti-dog laws.

You are a VET? That explains much as the AVMA is similarily ignorant of what is happening.

April - I am no fan of puppy mills, but the laws that are passed as a result tend to only punish the good breeders, while the crappy 'breeders' continue on their merry way!

And seeing that you are a member of HSUS, you ARE aware that their agenda is to end all pet ownership, right??? You DO know that your membership dues are going towards the end of your Dobies, right? DPCA is well aware of the AR threat, you should be too! If you love animals, HSUS (among many) is NOT your friend!

activistcash.com
animalscam.com
naiaonline.org read the AR quotes, TRULY eye-opening!

I"f you're honest with people who buy your dogs, don't you want to know where they are going?"

I course, I keep in touch with all my puppy buyers, and insist they send me at least a Christmas update. Each time I let a puppy go it is like ripping out my heart and handing it over, I cry every time. I have contracts and S/N agreements and SHUDDER at the thought of a commercial breeder getting their hands on one.

"People have the RIGHT to know the breeder, and the claims he/she makes are TRUTHFUL!"

It doesn't work to legislate ethics and morals, you will not get rid of the scammers.

People have the right to make a choice. They should be responsible for their decisions. I HATE that people will spend hours researching what kind of used car to buy, but will buy a live puppy with no research what so ever. Why do we need more laws that hurt good breeders, just so we can save people from their own bad decisions? Why should *I* pay because people buy a puppy on impulse without putting as much effort into it as they would a CAR? Buying a puppy online from someone you don't know is STUPID and most people wouldn't buy a CAR that way, but a puppy??? Sure.

"Do you have a problem with the truth?"

I have no problem with the truth, it does no good to pretend things are not as they are (in all areas of life). I KNOW there are crappy breeders. I am currently boarding a 9 mth old Cavalier pup. He is, at BEST, a Cavalier cross (looks like a PBGV cross) and they paid alot of money for him. I feel bad for them, but shouldn't they have at least known what one LOOKED like before they bought one? He is adorable and they love him, but they were scammed out of quite a few hundred dollars.

The problem with these laws (anti-breeding, MSN, limits, etc) is that they mainly hurt the good breeders.
1. The true puppy mills, hidden in the woods, cannot be found for enforcing the abuse/neglect laws NOW. HOW will they be able to enforce the new laws if they cannot find them?
2. Commercial breeders ARE inspected already, and while *I* would never buy a CB puppy, many people do and are happy with them. They are not affected by these laws as they already have the facilities, and the USDA specs are NOT easy to meet, I have read them and had many discussions about the specs and inspections.
3. The people who do not CARE, the BYBers, mills, thugs, and the people too irresponsible to manage their dogs do NOT trot on in to comply, because they don't CARE enough to!

Anti-breeding, MSN laws affect the caring, responsible, law abiding breeders. THEY are the ones trying to comply! Do you think its right that the show people in LA county have to hide out as if they are CRIMINALS because they breed or have unfixed dogs?

The AR groups are a serious threat to animal ownership. THEY are pushing these laws as well as legislation works very well to further their no more pets agenda. I realize I probably sound like I am ranting, but I have seen and heard WAY to much to ignore this issue. I am a busy person but do spend some time fighting anti-dog legislation. My life revolves around my dogs and it woud be very empty if I weren't allowed to have them anymore. If the pet owning public doesn't wake up it will happen.

I understand what you are trying to do, I don't like this situation either, but it does no good to pass more laws that mostly affect the conscientous breeders. Educate the public all you want, just don't help the AR's pass more laws that will ultimately take our dogs away from us.
