You should do like me and talk to your local Marine Corps Recruiter. Trust me you won't have to worry about paying for college if you're dead, and if you're not they'll pay for you!
I am being serious, I am in no way using sarcasm, sardon, or satire.

If you go to college make sure you major in an area where there is a job need. Then excell in your studies. You will get a job. For every student like your cousin there are many who go to school, get great jobs that last long after the school loan is paid. Yes, you have to pay the loan but if you are planning accordingly you will have it paid off. You can also work while you are in school and apply for scholarships.

you'll make ore money with a college degree, even if it is in underwater basket weaving than you would with out one. try going to a community college, since they are cheaper and tuiton runs around 4000 dolars a year. plus, apply to as many scholarships and financial aid that you can. i didn't get a lot of scholarships, so i had to take out a 10, 000 doallar loan. and it still wasn't enough. then again i go to a private college and i am a fashion desing studetn, and i need to buy tons of supplies other than books. apply to as many shcalrships as you can!! your cousin is only just starting his job; he will eventually make enought to pay off on his laons. many loans have low interest rates so that it isn't quite as hard to pay them off. also, you can get a payment plan that will allow you to pay about 50$ a month, or less depending on the income you make. you should at least try to get an associates degree(2 years, community college) or you can try going to your local adult BOCES and get a certificate in something like cosmetology, grahpic design or nursing assistant so that you have some credential for a good paying job. my sister is doing that. college is very stressful when you are deciding whether or not to go, wehre to go, and how you're going to pay.. take time to relax and think about what you want in the future. this should help you decide.

You need to go to college to get the basics that will be needed in life. If you do not want to go the a recular college, I would recommend a tech school. In this school you will be able to get knowledge and experience in a field while in a school. It is much easier to get a job. Some tech school may help you with a job or some employers will help you with your education. It just takes research to see what is available. Look around for some grants. There are many grants that are never given out each year. Here again this takes research and work on your part or find what is available.
My personal recommendation in todays job market with all the job cuts, would be, is to choose a field and go to a tech school and get traing there. See if they can or if they have any information on how to get financial help.
Good Luck

Go to College .... the world is getting more competitive every day. Pretty soon you'll need to have a college degree to get a job at McDonalds. A Bachelors degree might not be enough, get your Masters also. Those with degrees make 1 million dollars more in their lifetime on average than those that don't have a degree.
Good Luck

Studies have shown that people who have a college degree earn a substantially larger amount than people who didn't attend college. I don't know what your cousin went to school for but one thing to look in to when attending college is the job demand for what you are going to school for. Right now there is a shortage of nurses so going to nursing school is great. Maybe your cousin went to school for a job that is hard to find. I have two associates degrees and it has helped me a lot. Good Luck!

I was in a very similar situation not too long ago and I found this website www.fastweb.com You can go on there and search for scholarships for the college you want to go to and also go to http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ and that is grants from the government to go to college. Trust me I went to a small college for the year of mine and tuition was only like a little over 1000 for 12 credit hours and I got 2500 in government grants to pay for it. So go there. It helps alot.

If your family can't afford paying for you, then you can get FAFSA, it's free money from the government, and also there are grants and scholarships that you can apply to. try to apply to as much scholarships as possible, that increases the chance that you don't have to get loans.
