Roller blades, skateboard, soccer ball. One idea that I like, but costs a little more than what you're looking for is the dance mat video game thing. It combines exercise and video game...it's really fun. That's how I work out.

There's a book called "Megatooth" which is about giant sharks that lived at the time of dinosaurs. The pictures are great and the book is perfect for 6 yr old boys. There's also a series of about 6 books called "Captain Underpants," by Dav Pilkey. They are always a hit with 6 yr old boys as you can probably tell by the title. There's also another popular picture book called "Walter the Farting Dog," which is always a hit with boys! As you can tell, I think books are the way to go.

A dance mat!!! They have them them for play stations and xbox (depends on what video game console he has) and also dance mats that do not require a game console, they are called "plug n plays." It's like playing a video game, but he'll be dancing (i.e. getting exercise) and having fun. All the big stores have them. I found one at www.target.com, Star Lites Single Dance Mat, it's $29.99, and has FREE SHIPPING! Kmart and Walmart also have them online too. Just type in "dance mats" into the stores "search" box. Like I said, they have stand alone dance mats and also ones that will go with a play station or xbox. They also have "double dance mats" that comes with 2 mats, so he can dance with a friend! I hope you like this idea, and good luck!

Have you looked into those dance pad things? I am guessing they are over $35, but that's about all I can think of that could play off of his love of video games. - Who knows what you may find for sale around Christmas?
What kinds of video games does he like? Is it anything that he could act out with other toys? Could you get him any games like Twister that encourage him to get up and move around a bit?
Inside toys are a toughy. I always hit the 88 cent shelf at walmart. My daughter isn't very active with them, but she does get a little exercise when doing things like turning a chair and a sheet into a mountain with caves for them to climb.
If he's into toy cars, he would have to chase them around the house when they rolled away. How dangerous would it be to have a radio controlled car in your home? And someone else mentioned a ball, those can be good too if he knows how to play calmly with them it instead of throwing it around and knocking stuff over. I got my daughter one that is almost up to the tops of her legs. She lays on it on her tummy, trying to find her balance, and bounces as she sits on it. I have also often wondered about those moon shoes... I don't know if they would be safe in the house or not.
You may also want to consider art sets. Standing at a small easle and drawing a picture would be better than sitting around staring at a tv.

wow, that is a tough one, I have a 4 year old who is overweight and am not sure what to do either. I was going to suggest a vsmile since it is an educational video game. I got mine on sale for $30 but they are up to $80 usually, just watch for sales. Something to help him get active?? I don't know but I am going to watch your answers to see if I can get some ideas....oh what about a mini trampoline?

A baseball glove, bat and ball if he has someone who can play catch with him.
A remote control car he can use outside (okay, not a lot of exercise, but at least he'll be outside.) At walmart they have these "chubs" cars for about $10 each. If you get two, they have a switch on them so the frequencies won't interfere with each other and he and a friend can race cars outside.

How about a personalized book? Kids love to hear their name in the storyline. Go to this website http://www.tlc-expressions.com They have lots of titles like Spider-Man, Batman, Justice League, Scooby-Doo, Looney Tunes, Sports Superstar, etc. Check it out and good luck!
