same as the formula mentioned below but add a bit more for doubling up on reversed half shingles at the eave all the way around... be careful okay

1 square is 10ft by 10ft or 100sqt. So, compute the total squarefootage of the area you need to cover and divide by 100. That will tell you how many squares you need.

Remember: add 10% to total number of squares to account for unusable scraps.
