I am having a few behavioral problems with my do and I am sure a lot of it has to do with the fact that I haven't learned how to be a good pack leader.

i'm with you, and incredibly some what you pay attention on a number of those tutor is fake and deceptive. One trick is to demonstrate screen the tutor without the sound on so which you will no longer pay attention what they say and look on the physique language of the dogs(s). in case you be attentive to dogs language you would be surprised at how far off the remark may be. I exceptionally flinch at "calm submissive". try "freezing in concern". And the so spoke of as %. hierarchy concept a number of those human beings stick to and what they declare is organic wolf or dogs habit.... try analyzing a medical e book on the difficulty this is below 15-2 an prolonged time previous! Dominance is something human beings desire, no longer dogs. I pay attention that running shoes all over the country are seeing an advance in dogs that worsen, greater aggressive/chunk, or have apprehensive breakdowns after those confrontational procedures have been utilized - alongside with some Cesar Milan worked with. he's a large handler, yet that doesn't make for a psychological concept of dogs habit, or justify his procedures. And from volunteering in a look after i be attentive to the place most of the dogs that are experienced with punitive procedures finally end up while the proprietors now no longer can cope with them. unhappy!

The books by Patricia McConnell and Suzanne Clothier are very good - these ladies really understand dogs and what we have to do to bring out the best in our relationship with them. Also "Mother Knows Best" - Carol Benjamin.

I personally would stay away from Cesar Milan at this point - his methods are best left to professionals or experienced dog owners.

The Dog Listener by Jan Fennell. Most libraries have it, although I had to replace the copy I borrowed because my dog ate it. Try to find the version that has the 30 day training plan in it.

I like "The Other End of the Leash" . I suggest you do a bit of clicker training research as well as other methods before jumping into Cesar Milan's training. NOT EVERYONE in the dog training world agrees or approves of his methods!!! -dd

Google "The Monks of New Skete" or get their book "The Art of Raising a Puppy". They were a God Send to my family when we got our first GSD. Ten years latrer when we got two brothers from a litter (GSDs that were the alpha and challenger of the litter), it was even more needed.

The Dog Whisperer is good. It's hosted by Cesar Milan.

Good luck with your dog!

I don't know of any books, but we took an obedience class and to be the leader you never break eye contact.
