Born and raised in black and white
The wind blows hard across the Texas plain
makes some people go insane
while others quietly pray for rain
that's where we came from

Two boys playing in the burning sun
one with books, one with guns
mama calls, but just one comes
the other one runs

In the Christian sense of wrong and right
we were born and raised in black and white
One learned to pray, one learned to fight
we were born and raised in black and white
we were born and raised in black and white

Brother took to the gospel road
spent his whole life saving souls
when he looked at me, his blood ran cold
he didn't even try

I had no dreams, I had no plans
but a gun felt good in my right hand
the warden asked, how come you kill that man?
I said I don't know why

Welcome home, said the hot moonlight
we were born and raised in black and white
One lives to pray, one prays for life
we were born and raised in black and white
we were born and raised in black and white

Someone handed me a cigarette
they offered me my last request
I asked my mortal soul be blessed
by someone close to me

He came to me with trembling hands
swore he'd never understand
I said it's just what life had planned
it's destiny

Don't waste your tears on me tonight
we were born and raised in black and white
I chose the dark, you chase the light
we were born and raised in black and white
we were born and raised in black and white

The wind blows hard across the Texas plain
makes some people go insane
while others quietly pray for rain

What an excellent song! So true how we are all raised in various ways, and we all make different choices. Not that I agree with all the choices, but that's the way our broad aspect of life is. I can't say that I identify totally with either brother, as one chose the dark paths of life (not me) and the other was very devoted to God (I was in mind, but not in action). But I love the verse "Welcome home, said the hot moonlight/We were born and raised in black and white/One lives to pray, one prays for life..." Very poetic!

Thank you for sharing this song. I don't know if you wrote it or are just sharing an existing song with the rest of us to see our thoughts on it. But I very much enjoyed it.

During different times in my life, I can see myself identifying with both brothers. There is a time for both peace and fighting, one must choose both wisely. Right now tho i tend to be more into shades of gray. When you look at the world in only black and white you miss the nuances.

To be honest I have been both people
I chose the dark prior to coming to Christ in a personal way.
I was a drug addict who lived a life of crime, today I am saved and God allows me to be forgiven for all things, and I choose to be in the light and try to save some souls in the process before I go.

That's true and I like that very much. I think it's talk ing about Satan and Jesus always trying different ways to win, even though we all know who's going to win and I want to stay on the winning side of the battle field.

there are some interesting thoughts here and one can see the point. however each of us will see things differently and there are shades of Grey between pure black and pure white. many mortals fall in the Grey category.

Don't agree about the brother saving souls, the Holy Spirit is the one who leads souls to salvation not man. Life is not prdestined it is free will, even tho God knows the outcome because He is "Alpha and Omega"..

I really don't identify with either brother. I learned long ago that the world isn't black and white.

I look @ it this way :

The ways of the flesh ( the world) are black (black as in dark & scary)

& the ways of God/Jeusus are bright & white (when our sin's are washed away)

Take Care
