We want to move the location of our Freezer. We must go down a Hallway and make a turn to the right. It is not possible to leave it in it's normal position, but will work if we turn it on it's end. Will this hurt the motor or compressor. The freezer is about 5 years old.

NO! Don't tip it! The freon will spill out and then it won't work.

It will not hurt the freezer. However, if you move the freezer in that position and it remains on end for more than an hour, you need to let it sit upright for a couple of hours before plugging it back in to allow the freon to redistribute through the compressor coils.

Why not turn it off when you move it. If it's off, the motor and compressor won't care how they are oriented.

As for this being an etiquette question, from an etiquette standpoint, most polite people consider putting a chest freezer on it's side to be a terrible faux pas, extremely gauche. But I say go for it, good manners be damned!

if the freezer is only five years old you can treat it anyway you want. Systems are solid. Hey 10 or more years old need the system that runs different to be upright. and needs the time for the gas as liquid to settle. Now you can toss them anyway you want and plug them in in less than an hour. Just check any new freezer manual..

Yes you can. You can turn it upside down if necessary. However!!!!!!!! Wait!!!!

Set it up right for a minimum of ***"""1 hour"""*** before you plug it back into the electrical outlet.
All the liquid must be allowed to drain back down to the bottom of the compressor before you turn it on. If not you can severely damage the compressor.
People do this all the time-just let it sit upright for an hour before you plug it back in. OKAY!!

Yes you can tip it, let it sit flat for 12 hours before plugging it back in.

The liquid freon will (when you tip it) go to
places it shouldn't be in a liquid form, but by setting it flat it will run back to where it should be...
