The Ottomans in 1453. Prior to that they had had capitals in Bursa and Edirne.

That was Ottoman Empire who conquered Constantinople and Byzantine Empire on 29th of May 1453. Mehmed the Second was the Padishah (Emperor) who took the city and he was approximately only 20 years old when he did this.

On the other hand Ottoman State had enlarged its territories by conquering Byzantine cities just after the settlement of State in 1299. Bursae (Bursa) and Adrinapole (Edirne), former capitals of Ottoman Empire were also territories of Byzantine Empire. Briefly the decline of Byzantine Empire was due to the rise of Ottoman Empire. So Turks and Ottoman Empire were the groups who took the control of Byzantine Empire renaming its Capital Ä°stanbul

That WAs Ottoman Empire. in 1453 Fatih Mehmet Sultan II was Occupy Constantinopolis and to name is ISTANBUL :)
